Job Summary and Qualifications The Perianesthesia Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing individualized, age specific, culturally competent care to patients undergoing or recovering from anesthesia. Preoperatively, the RN obtains a health history and assesses the patient to establish a baseline. The RN also works with the physician and anesthesiologist to ensure each patient is appropriately readied for their procedure. Postoperatively, the RN provides extensive care until the patient is safely able to transfer to the next level of care, including home. The RN manages postoperative pain, nausea, and thermoregulation. The RN delegates tasks to the licensed and unlicensed personnel according to the Texas Nurse Practice Act and hospital policy.
