GENERAL OVERVIEW: The Registered Nurse assesses human responses and plans, implements and evaluates nursing care for individuals or families for whom the nurse is responsible. Willingly accepts mistakes of self and others, creating a culture in which risk taking is not only safe but expected. Participates on interdisciplinary team to evaluate clinical care or health services. Promotes patient safety initiatives (ex: National Patient Safety Goals). Participates in department specific quality initiatives ( ex: EBP population specific). Assures appropriate order sets are used. Supervises delegates and evaluates assigned LPN scope of practice as appropriate. Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, evaluate and implement a patient plan of care according to the individual needs of the patient as prescribed by physician, nurse and hospital policy including patient and family. Derives culturally and age appropriate expected outcomes involving the patient, family and other health care providers. Analyzes the health status of the individuals and families comparing the data with the norm, when possible, to determine patient care needs. Assesses patient reports/records change of condition and notifies physician and/or supervisor and intervenes appropriately and documents accordingly. Accepts assignments in areas other than primary unit, and performs duties within individualized competency. Demonstrates a commitment to continuous lifelong learning for self and others. Promotes advancement of the profession through participation in professional organizations. Seeks both formal and independent learning activities using current research findings and other evidence to maintain and develop clinical and professional skills and knowledge. Participates in systematic peer review and obtains informal feedback regarding one’s own practice from patients, peers, professional colleagues and others. Identifies areas of strength, as well as, areas in which professional development would be beneficial. Meets time and attendance guidelines per hospital policy. Description The Assistant Nurse Manager is a Registered Professional Nurse with broad knowledge and skills who acts as clinical leader in the daily functioning of the unit and oversight of quality patient care delivery, in conjunction with, or in the absence of, the Clinical Nurse Manager. We have multiple openings for the following specialties at Mount Sinai West: Medical Surgical Telemetry Orthopedics Critical Care Step Down Shift: Evenings; 1pm- 11pm Responsibilities Leads nursing practice using the tenets of the Professional Practice Model of Relationship Centered Care and the Care Delivery Model of Modified Primary Nursing for the promotion of the patient experience. Demonstrates proficiency in all aspects of Purposeful Hourly Rounding (PHR) and role models expected behaviors. Ensures the integration of PHR into clinical activities to enhance Relationship Centered Care. Validates staff members round hourly on all patients by direct observation and patient feedback. Assesses staff competency in PHR and provides consistent meaningful feedback with more focused feedback as needed. Conducts rounding of all patients on a daily basis Communicates quantitative and qualitative information regarding the patient experience and staff engagement to the staff and the Interdisciplinary Patient Care Team that leads to the development and implementation of an action plan. Collaborates with the physician dyad and escalates concerns as appropriate. Follows up on all patient concerns in a timely manner and provides service recovery as needed. Demonstrates caring, respect, compassion, empathy and active listening through dialogue, body language and actions. Qualifications Bachelor of Science with a major in nursing required, master's in nursing or health related field preferred. Licensed as a registered nurse with current registration in New York State. Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience in the relevant clinical area; charge nurse or supervisory experience preferred. Must have relevant clinical competence in area of nursing practice assigned. ACLS and BCLS from AHA required.
