A Brief Overview This RN position requires 12 months of previous RN work experience. It is 36 hours a week, Day/Night rotating,12 hour shifts, every third weekend. Our Rehabilitation Unit at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is an 18-bed unit that is built on a foundation of delivering safe, high quality, family centered care that has fostered medical discoveries and innovations that have improved pediatric healthcare. Our Rehabilitation Unit specializes in treating children recovering from brain injury, stroke, spinal cord or orthopedic trauma, neuromuscular and more, empowering them and their families through intensive evidence-based care. After an illness, surgery or injury, rehabilitation helps patients regain strength, skills and function in order to reach their fullest potential. Recognized by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) for its excellent care, the unit offers interdisciplinary treatment tailored to each child’s needs from nursing, physical, occupational, and speech therapy to neuropsychology, integrative health, and child life programs. The Clinical Nurse practices at the level of an advanced beginner to expert practitioner of professional nursing in accordance with, and guided by the CHOP Nursing Professional Practice Model. The nurse at this level demonstrates competence in caring for patients and families and progresses to caring for those with the most complex problems/highest acuity in the designated clinical area. Provides age/developmentally appropriate care. Care is delivered through RN leadership for patient care within the framework of family-centered care. The Clinical Nurse adheres to the organizational and nursing department mission, vision, and values. Clinical Nurses practice in accordance with the ANA Code of Ethics; the ANA Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice; practice standards of applicable specialty nursing organizations; and CHOP developed standards of nursing practice. The professional nurse practices within the defined scope of practice designated by the Nurse Practice Acts of Pennsylvania and/or New Jersey, depending on the assigned work site. The Nurse Practitioner provides specialized care to children with complex acute, critical, and chronic conditions. Working collaboratively with pediatric intensivists and the interdisciplinary care team, this position assesses patients, develops and implements treatment plans, coordinates care, and supports patients and families throughout hospitalization and discharge. Responsibilities Provide specialized care to children with complex acute, critical, and chronic conditions in the CICU. Perform and document comprehensive patient histories, physical examinations, and ongoing clinical assessments. Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care in collaboration with the supervising physician and interdisciplinary care team. Write appropriate orders for medications, nursing care, laboratory testing, imaging, and other diagnostic or therapeutic services within the approved scope of practice. Review and interpret laboratory results, imaging studies, vital signs, and other clinical data. Initiate appropriate interventions and communicate significant findings or changes in a patient’s condition to the supervising physician. Request consultations, referrals, additional testing, or medical interventions as clinically appropriate. Complete consultation notes, progress notes, and other required documentation accurately and within established timeframes. Coordinate continuity of care throughout the patient’s hospitalization. Collaborate with physicians, clinical staff, patients, and families to identify anticipated discharge needs and coordinate follow-up care. Provide and document patient and family education, including discharge instructions. Serve as a clinical resource for nursing staff and other members of the care team. Participate in PICU- and CICU-based conferences, committees, quality initiatives, and the development of clinical practice standards. Serve as a liaison and advocate for high-risk patients, children with complex or chronic healthcare needs, and their families. Collaborate with research personnel on approved research projects and data collection, as applicable. Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality. Follow hospital policies, clinical standards, regulatory requirements, and corporate compliance guidelines. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Master’s or Post Master’s Degree, required. Graduation from a Nurse Practitioners Program with practice authority in the State of Texas, required. Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner - Acute Care (CPNP-AC), required. Active and unencumbered nurse practitioner and registered nurse license in the State of Texas, required. Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications, required. Minimum of 2-3 years of pediatric critical care experience, recommended.
