Job Description Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Department Description The Intensive Care Nursery (ICN), founded in 1964, is a regional tertiary center and has the proud distinction of being one of the first neonatal intensive care units in the world. In addition to caring for extremely premature infants, the ICN also cares for infants with congenital anomalies in need of evaluation and surgical interventions. The ICN opened the first Neuro Intensive care unit for newborns in 2008. Today, the ICN continues to enjoy a reputation for being at the forefront of innovation in the fields of neonatology and fetal treatment. Neonatologists, neurologists, radiologists and nurses work to improve neuro developmental outcomes in very premature infants and full-term babies who are at high risk of neurological injury or have clinical evidence of encephalopathy, seizures or stroke. The ICN provides state of the art care for infants with neurological, gastrointestinal, renal and skeletal, cardiac and respiratory diseases. We are one of a few centers in Northern California that provides ECMO and are recognized as an ECMO Center of Excellence. Staff nurses are the backbone of the ICN. They provide comprehensive, compassionate and highly specialized care to the most fragile of infants and their families. Qualifications Required Qualifications Possesses a Bachelor’s Degree in a Healthcare related field. Recent experience in case management, utilization review or discharge planning. Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position. Demonstrates resourcefulness, superior written and oral communication, diplomacy, organizational and analytic skills. Self-directed, assertive and creative in problem solving, systems planning and patient care management in a high volume work environment. Basic computer skills Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams. This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations. Preferred Qualifications Master’s Degree in Nursing or Healthcare related field preferred. Required License/Certifications California Registered Nurse License (RN)
