About this Job: Unit Highlights Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit MedStar Georgetown University Hospital is a Certified Comprehensive Stroke Center and this adult 24-bed unit is one of the few dedicated Neurosciences ICUs in Washington, DC. Clinical Nurses on this team provide expert care for critically ill patients who have suffered stroke (hemorrhagic/ischemic), subarachnoid hemorrhage, subdural hematoma, complex spine and brain surgeries. Other common neurological diagnoses include meningitis, Guillain Barre syndrome and viral, infectious, or autoimmune processes. This department has been awarded both the Beacon Award for Nursing Excellence and the Nurse-Family Collaboration Award by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN). Key Responsibilities As a Clinical Nurse you will deliver proficient nursing care to patients and families whose needs range from uncomplicated to highly complex. Overview Our Emergency Departments offer comprehensive emergency medical services to all age groups and staffed 24/7 by a highly trained team to meet the needs of the community. Our ED team is composed of physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses and support staff. Our Northport Medical Center’s Emergency Department is a 17-bed Level III Stroke Center that treats more than 38,000 patients annually. Our Nurse to Patient ratio ranges from 1:1 with our critical/trauma patients to 1:3-4 on all other patients. Responsibilities Plans, coordinates and directs quality, compassionate care by maintaining standards of professional nursing practice and creating positive therapeutic relationships with patients/families. The Registered Nurse is responsible to supervise/direct care provided by Licensed Practical Nurses and Unlicensed Assistive Personnel.
