The cutting-edge Verstandig Pavilion is equipped with all-private inpatient rooms and state-of-the-art medical equipment, ensuring an environment that prioritizes excellence in patient care. The Transplant IMC shares a floor with its own Surgical Transplant Intensive Care Unit (ICU), promoting seamless patient throughput between different acuities. This 28-bed unit has been recognized by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) with a BEACON Award for Excellence through 2026. Clinical Nurses on S42 provide expert care to acutely ill adults that are waiting for or have recently received a solid organ transplant (liver, kidney, pancreas, intestine) or have undergone other hepatobiliary surgeries (TACE, liver resection, Whipple). MedStar Georgetown is one of only six centers in the United States that perform intestinal transplants and averages over 100 liver transplants per year.
