The Charge RN directs, coordinates, and oversees nursing activities, serves as a clinical resource for staff, assists with patient flow and staffing assignments, and supports quality improvement initiatives. In addition to leadership responsibilities, the Charge RN delivers direct patient care utilizing the nursing process and maintains accountability for patient outcomes in a high-acuity critical care environment. Key Responsibilities Provide shift leadership and clinical oversight for ICU nursing operations. Coordinate patient assignments, staffing adjustments, and resource allocation to ensure safe and effective patient care. Serve as a clinical expert and mentor for nursing staff, providing guidance and support in complex patient care situations. Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes. Assist with onboarding, orientation, and ongoing development of new nursing team members. Support performance improvement, patient safety, and evidence-based practice initiatives. Facilitate effective communication during shift handoffs, interdisciplinary rounds, and emergency situations. Monitor compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and professional nursing standards. Participate in quality assurance activities and departmental projects as assigned. Maintain accountability for direct patient care while functioning in a leadership capacity. Qualifications Required Education Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program. New hires effective June 14, 2017, must obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution within three (3) years of hire or transfer into the position. Preferred Education Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Required Experience Minimum of two (2) years of recent acute care nursing experience. Previous critical care nursing experience required. Preferred Experience Prior charge nurse, preceptor, leadership, or supervisory experience in a critical care setting. Licensure & Certifications Required Current Florida Registered Nurse (RN) license. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification upon hire or within six (6) months of hire/transfer, as required by unit standards. Preferred National specialty certification in Critical Care Nursing (CCRN) or related specialty certification. Job Overview Fairview is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for our ICU - Cardiovascular Department at our M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank location in Minneapolis, MN. We care for patients who have had coronary artery bypass, valve replacement and transcatheter aortic valve replacement, aortic arch repair and heart and lung transplant. The CVICU also handles patients with decompensated heart failure, adult congenital heart defects, cardiogenic shock, advanced pulmonary hypertension and cardiac arrest. We apply extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), ventricular assist devices (VAD), intraortic balloon pumps (IABP) and Swan-Ganz catheters routinely. Our complex patient population requires hemodynamic monitoring, critical medication management, management of organ failure, maintenance of systemic perfusion and high technical skills. This unit has a low nurse to patient ratio and resource nurses on unit. Schedule: This position will be working 0.60 FTE (48 hours every two weeks). The shift length will be 12 hours on the night shift. This position will also work every third weekend.
