Maintains accurate I & O, cumulative totals; assists with shift duty assignments or serves as a staff nurse as needed; as charge nurse identifies, organizes and directs activities to utilize resources, personnel, and materials to meet the needs of the patient and nursing staff; communicates with the Nurse Manager and Nurse Administrator, on an ongoing basis, regarding changes in unit status, patient related issues, staffing issues, Quality Management issues and other events as they evolve; acts as first line in problem resolution with other departments and any patient complaints; assists with shift duty assignments or serves a staff nurse as needed; verifies that emergency equipment is functional; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; related duties as required. It is a fast-paced environment where state-of-the-art technology, nationally recognized standards of care and critical thinking skills are utilized by the all-RN staff to provide compassionate patient and family-centered care. Staff on this unit are highly proficient in pre-operative and intra-operative support as well as immediate post-operative phases of cardiovascular procedures. The MICU and SICU share primary responsibility for the Rapid Response Team (the STAT Team) and respond to calls throughout the hospital.
