The unit also manages status epilepticus, hypotension, gastrointestinal bleeding (including use of rapid infusers and massive transfusion protocols), DIC , intentional and unintentional overdoses , cardiac arrest patients (with or without targeted temperature management), and acute or chronic renal failure requiring HD, PD, or CRRT . Post‑operative patients needing enhanced monitoring are also frequently admitted. Nurses care for patients with a wide range of invasive monitoring and access , including PA catheters, central venous catheters, arterial lines, PICC lines, bladder pressure monitoring , and are responsible for the titration of vasoactive medications .
