No weekends or major holidays. Job Summary Answers patient inquiries over the telephone, assessing the severity of the patient's symptoms and medical needs according to triage algorithms. Guides the patient to the appropriate level of care; schedules patient appointments over the phone with appropriate healthcare providers/facilities/physicians. Documents information provided to patients during triage in health record systems; records patients health conditions for follow-up patient care. Maintains and develops triage protocols; ensures patients' healthcare information is updated on time. Role does answer inquiries through multiple variations of technology, depending on department. Educate patients based on calls that come in. Qualifications Graduate from an accredited nursing program preferred, including, but not limited to, American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA). Bachelor’s Degree in nursing preferred. One year of healthcare experience preferred. Sign-on incentive: Qualified candidates with a minimum of two years of experience are eligible for a sign-on bonus up to $10,000 The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking a Staff Nurse to perform specific tasks to assist members of the Nursing team in providing patient care under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager. The Endocrinology Registered Nurse (RN) will collaborate closely with the Endocrine team, including physicians, Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), and nursing staff, in both clinical and office settings. This position is not with the diabetes population. There is some overlap in patients, but the position will not be a member of the diabetes nursing team. In the office, responsibilities will include triaging calls, coordinating patient care, managing MyChart messages, prescription refills, clinic prep and handling necessary documentation. The newly remodeled Pediatric Emergency Department is designated as a certified pediatric advanced prepared emergency center, consisting of 14 private beds. Our department is located in between the inpatient pediatric unit and the Pediatric ICU, which facilitates a great working relationship amongst the pediatric service line. In our department we see approximately 30,000 patients a year with a wide range of chief complaints from sore throats and lacerations to SI/HI, overdoses, fractures with reductions at the bedside, respiratory distress and full codes. We work together as a team consisting of physicians, midlevel providers, registered nurses, medics, patient care techs and a unit clerk. All nurses in the department are dedicated pediatric nurses and are required to have BLS, ACLS, PALS, CPI and ENPC Certifications. All RNs are required to have 8 CEUs a year to maintain our designation. Summary Coordinates patient care planning with other disciplines utilizing the principles of the nursing process and critical thinking skills in order to maintain patient safety and well-being.
