Summary GENERAL SUMMARY: The Certified Nursing Assistant is responsible for providing general nursing care to patients, treatments to patients, and participates in discharge planning under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). This position reports to Nurse Manager, Charge Nurse, or Staff RN. PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values. 2. Uses quality improvement processes, programs or outcome to help improve department operations. 6. *Performs Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) for assigned patient. 7. Serves patients meals/snacks/supplements; assists with and/or feeds meals/snacks/supplements; and records intake of meals/snacks/supplements as required by organization. 8. *Assists licensed nursing staff during treatment and examination of patient. 9. *Observes patients, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies nursing staff of patient’s condition and reactions to drugs/treatments. 10. *Participates in patient discharge planning. 11. *Gives treatment/cares as directed by Registered Nurse. 12. Changes bed linens, runs errands, directs visitors, and answers telephone. 13. *Takes and records temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration rates, and food and fluid intake and output, under direction of a licensed nurse. 14. *Documents on assigned medical records and worksheets to include but not limited to ADL flow sheets, vital signs, baths, and meals. 15. Bathes patients when determined appropriate by the licensed nurse. 16. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned. (Essential Job functions are marked with an asterisk “*”. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or equivalency required. Active Nebraska Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credential required. Must be active and with no disciplinary action on the Nebraska Nurse Aide Registry. One (1) year of hospital experience preferred. OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS: Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Duties Description St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center has immediate job opportunities for Register Nurses (RN), previous psychiatric experience is not required. Candidates from outside or within State Service can apply. Nurses are vital members of a multi-disciplinary treatment team focused on providing compassionate care through patient-centered and recovery-focused mental health services to individuals with serious mental illness including: Coordinating and providing nursing care Conducting nursing assessments Preparing, implementing, and modifying nursing care plans Providing health teaching, counseling, and education to individuals and families Implementing infection control protocols and procedures Observing and recording individuals' symptoms and care; reporting responses to medications or changes in health Minimum Qualifications Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (NY HELPS) program as a Registered Nurse 1 Psychiatric if they have a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State.
