Position Overview United Health Services (UHS) is seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or a Physician Assistant (PA) for the Department of Neurosurgery at UHS Wilson Medical Center. The candidate will join a team of 5 Neurosurgeons and 7 APPs. The Hospital is a Level II trauma center and Comprehensive Stroke Center with 450 beds. The practice is a high functioning practice performing 1,200 + cases/year with excellent hospital support and a wide referral network spanning a 120 mile radius. Shift is Monday – Friday Days with rotating weekends/holiday coverage, and can be flexible to meet candidate’s needs. Primary Department, Division, or Unit: UHS Neurosurgery Annual Compensation Range: $143,100 - $167,000 ----- Seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) in Neurosurgery or Spine Surgery for this new role open due to department growth. This position provides health care services to patients under the direction and responsibility of a physician. Examines patient, performs comprehensive physical examination, and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination. Administers and orders diagnostic test and interprets the test results for deviations from normal. Performs therapeutic procedures, such as injections, suturing and wound care, and managing infection. Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes, and assists in provision of continuity of care. Instructs and counsels patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens and health maintenance. Preference for previous Neurosurgery or Spine Surgery experience. Preferred credentials are ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support). Will provide courses upon employment. Key Job Duties and Responsibilities The Certified Medication Aide assists in the administering of medications to residents as ordered by the attending physician, under the direction of the attending physician, the nurse supervisor or charge nurse, and the Director of Nursing Services. The administration of medications shall be in accordance with established nursing standards, the policies, procedures, and practices of this facility, and the requirements of this state. Assist in documenting and removing medications that are discontinued by the attending physician. Follow facility procedures governing drug receipt errors, including notifying the delivery source and the Director of Nursing Services. Follow facility procedures in holding medications for residents who are out of the facility or per physician’s order. Honor the resident’s right to refuse medications. Observe and verify that medication is ingested or applied as directed. Document any instance where prescribed medication is not administered including reason(s) for refusal. Promptly notify the Charge Nurse, Nurse Supervisor, or Director of Nursing Services of any refusals or reactions to medications by residents. Ensure that no medication is administered without a written, signed, dated order from an attending licensed physician. Verify the identity of the resident before administering the medication treatment. Follow the facility’s procedures allowing residents to self-administer their medications. Assist the Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse in monitoring and documenting all aspects of such self-administering. Notify nurse when medication refills are needed.
