Job Summary and Qualifications As a Certified Surgical Tech, under the direction of a Registered Nurse, you will contribute to the company’s mission and vision by assisting with the provision of safe and effective nursing care in accordance with a defined scope of practice within the operating room. This may include: direct patient care and observation, scrubbing and assisting the surgeon at the operative field, surgical room turnover between cases, collection and recording of pertinent clinical data in the medical record and consistent collaboration with the Registered Nurse in clinical decision making. What you will do in this role: Demonstrate necessary practical, technical, or specialized skills required for the role of the surgical technician in accordance with the Association of Surgical Technologists Assist in preparing the operative suite for surgery by checking and gathering supplies, equipment, and instruments Ensure that surgical asepsis is maintained in the handling of instruments, sponges, sutures, drains, needles, and dressings Assist in the turnover of the operating room suites between cases, disposing of trash and linens, and cleaning of equipment and environmental surfaces Prepare procedure room for use the following day by bringing in equipment, setting up, "pulling cases" accurately, and reporting to supervisor items that are needed and not available Qualifications you will need: Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program as required per facility practice and state regulatory requirement; otherwise preferred Surgical Tech Certification State of Colorado Surgical Tech Registration required One year experience in an operating room setting (preferably in an ambulatory surgery center) Valid BCLS Certification upon employment ***Online certification not acceptable Benefits Denver Midtown Surgery Center, offers a total rewards package that supports the health, life, career and retirement of our colleagues. The Surgical Assistant will function as a first assistant during surgical incision, excision, repair of pathology, and wound closure throughout the perioperative period on procedures for which privileges have been granted. Minimum Qualifications: Graduate from an accredited surgical assistant program or certification from an accredited Board Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Expert Knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology, and operative technique Certification from an accredited surgical first assistant program Essential Functions: Maintains Patient privacy and confidentiality. Acts as a patient advocate Participates in preoperative assessment and planning for selected surgical patients in collaboration with peri-operative team members. Adheres to the Universal Protocol Policy by completing and participates in surgical time outs. Protects the patient from injury caused by improper positioning, chemical, electrical, laser, mechanical, thermal sources, and extraneous objects. Typical Work Activities Prepares operating room and case cart with necessary sterile supplies and equipment; Assists in transporting patients to operating room; Assists in preparation of operative area of patient and in positioning patient; Assembles and prepares specialized equipment for surgical procedures, i.e. implants or devises; Assists surgical team by passing or holding retractors, instruments, sponges and sutures during surgical procedure and counts number used during operation to prevent retained surgical items; Assists in educating the surgical team regarding new products and procedures; Adjusts lights and other equipment as directed; Assists in maintaining overall sterile environment throughout the procedure; Receives, prepares and identifies all grafts, tissues and medications on a sterile field before passing to surgeon; Confirms the specimen verbally with the surgeon, writes down specimen identification upon receipt from surgeon and verifies specimen with circulating Registered Professional Nurse prior to passing it off the sterile field, maintaining chain of custody; Cares for and delivers operative specimens to laboratory; Assists other team members in moving patient to recovery room; Assists in clean-up of operating area, gathers instruments for sterilization, disposes of used linen, gloves, utensils, equipment and waste; Assists team members, as needed, during the recovery phase of the patient; Prepares and presents appropriate records and reports as required. Minimum Qualifications Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and either: Completion of a nationally accredited education program for Surgical Technologists and possession of a Certified Surgical Technologist Credential administered by a nationally accredited Surgical Technologist credentialing organization at the time of appointment* and maintenance throughout duration of appointment; or: Completion of an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard or Public Health Service Commission Corps*; or: One (1) year of cumulative experience as a Surgical Technologist in a Healthcare Facility. The one (1) year of cumulative experience must have occurred between January 1, 2011 and January 1, 2015. This experience must be verified in writing*; or: Is in the service of the Federal Government, to the extent the person is performing duties related to that service*. Special Requirement Must annually complete fifteen (15) hours of continuing education to remain qualified to practice as a Surgical Technologist.
