This unit operates with a 5:1 patient ratio. We care for adult patients who have a burn injury and/or other type of complex wounds. The burn injuries on our unit are acute and generally less than 20% of total body surface area. We provide burn and wound care to these patients from the acute through rehabilitative phase. We also care for overflow patients from other units on the acute care surgical units and occasionally overflow form the acute care medicine units with patients including but not limited to: plastic surgery patients, diabetic wounds, and pressure ulcers. Nurses on 5 East are trained in medical-surgical nursing as well as Burn and Wound care . Our nursing team works with the interdisciplinary team to provide the best possible care for our patients.
