Examining patients to detect issues requiring medical care, including open wounds, bruises, or blood in the urine. Reminding patients to take medications and nutritional supplements. Noting observations of patient behavior, including complaints, or physical symptoms to nurses. Stay up to date on CNA training and facility policy and procedure. CNA Requirements: State Certified Nursing Assistant Certification. Nursing degree from a CNA program. Ability to think and work independently and with direction, and communicate with staff members in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment. Though temporary permits are valid for one year from the date of graduation, not one year from issue of permit (or until the results of the examination are known at which time it becomes null and void), UPMC requires that GNs take the licensure examination within 6 months of their start date, or they will be terminated or demoted from the GN position, at the discretion of the BU. Day (United States of America) Location Chicago Area Pediatrics Job Description Schedule: Monday evening: 11-7:30 pm Tuesday: 8:30-5 Wednesday: Off Thursday: 9:30-6 Friday 8-4:30 There is a Saturday rotation from 8-11:30 every 3 weeks. ***Successful completion of a formal Medical Assistant program (must be able to provide class transcripts and/or diploma prior to start date*** General Summary: The Medical Assistant is responsible for daily clinical work in the outpatient/primary care setting in accordance with the Ambulatory Medical Assistant Scope of Practice. Assists Physicians and other staff under the direction of a Registered Nurse, Advanced Practice Nurse and/or Physician. Essential Job Functions: • Depending on location, performs phlebotomy and specimen processing as directed by delegating provider. • Administers, including but not limited to, intramuscular injections, subcutaneous injections, intradermal skin testing, topical medications, ophthalmic drops and nasal spray. • Depending on location, performs ECGs, places Holter monitors and downloads telemetry data. • Works in conjunction with other staff to maximize clinic flow. • Intervenes appropriately in emergency situations. • Documents data and changes in the Electronic Medical Record. • Provides assistance and or back up support for administrative tasks including but not limited to scheduling patient visits and performing basic “check-in, check out” activities. • Obtains measurements, patient history and other intake activities. • Stocks and maintains the clinic area including ordering of supplies as needed. • Demonstrates knowledge of pertinent aspects and competency with protocols related to the use of chemical disinfection, high level disinfection, and sterilization if required as part of the responsibilities of the role. • Depending on location, directs High Level Disinfection scope cleaning in accordance with defined HLD processes. • Completes trainings and education including but not limited to Healthcare Provider CPR. • Other job functions as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: • High school diploma required. • Successful completion of a formal Medical Assistant program. • Possesses 0 – 3 years of relevant clinical experience. • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) (AAMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) preferred but not required. • Some college, preferred. • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association. • Excellent communication/listening skills.
