It is appropriate for the APP to provide care for an aging pediatric patient beyond the age of 21 with a pediatric condition for a limited period of time. Utilizing acquired knowledge of physiology, pathophysiology and pharmacology, the PCCM APP exercises independent decision making in the assessment, diagnosis and development of the plan of care for patients on the PCCM service. In collaboration and consultation with the supervising physician, the PCCM APP contributes to excellence in patient care. As an advanced practice provider, the PCCM APP is additionally involved in education, consultation, research and leadership throughout the Duke Health System, organization and profession. Job Eligibility Requirements Education NP: Graduate of accredited MSN or DNP Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program. MICU : The Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU)/7 West is a 20-bed intensive care unit. This unit provides holistic and compassionate care for patients with numerous diagnoses including pneumonia, GI bleed, respiratory failure, sepsis, heart failure, MI, post-cardiac arrest, acute renal failure, multi-system organ failure and many others. Nurses utilize a variety of equipment including intra-aortic balloon pumps and continuous dialysis machines. The MICU is a closed unit with an intensivist physician serving as the attending for each patient. The Christ Hospital is a teaching facility which allows the staff to work closely with the medical residents in the MICU and provides an opportunity for new nurses to receive specialized training in the Critical Care Nurse Residency Program. The MICU and SICU share primary responsibility for the Rapid Response Team (the STAT Team) and respond to calls throughout the hospital.
