Job Description A Nurse Practitioner is a professional nurse who possesses the advanced education, knowledge, clinical skills and experience necessary to provide expert nursing care in the area of specialization. The Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT) Nurse Practitioner has in-depth knowledge in the neurosciences, vascular disease, hemorrhage management, and genetic evaluation. Under the direction of the Program Directors of the UCSF HHT Center of Excellence, the HHT Nurse Practitioner has responsibilities in clinical practice, education, consultation, research, utilization review and leadership within the HHT Center of Excellence and the Medical Center. HHT is a multisystem genetic disorder occurring in about 1/5000 individuals. The vascular malformations that accompany HHT can result in brain hemorrhage, pulmonary hemorrhage, epistaxis (nosebleeds), gastrointestinal bleeding, and chronic anemia. The HHT Foundation certifies hospitals as centers of excellence based on development of multidisciplinary teams of physicians to care for the various manifestations of the disease. Independently performs cardiovascular stress tests and tilt table evaluations under direct supervision of a physician or nurse practitioner per department policy and procedure. The Registered Nurse establishes an in-depth database by assessing the psychosocial and physical status of patient's presenting for these tests. Demonstrates an in-depth knowledge and skill of the pharmacological agents used during diagnostic procedures, and demonstrates competence in the treatment of adverse side effects of said pharmacological agents. Job Description The Adult Infusion Centers at Mt. Zion, Parnassus and Mission Bay service the Medical Oncology and Hematology, Blood, and Cellular Transplant population at UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center as well as any non-oncology infusion needs of patients at UCSF. The treatments include but are not limited to chemotherapy, biotherapy, immunotherapy, blood transfusions, hydration and electrolyte therapy, injections and blood draws, enzymes and iron infusions, and antibiotics. The centers collectively consist of over 130 chairs/beds and treatments include research and standard of care infusions. The infusion centers are staffed by Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Medical Assistants, and Practice Coordinators. The position requires flexibility to work at all West Bay Outpatient Adult Infusion Centers. Weekend and evening shifts on a as needed basis. The adult infusion Clinical Nurse II delivers direct patient care to an assigned adult infusion outpatient population. This nurse is experienced and highly skilled with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the cancer and non cancer disease process, the major treatment modalities, symptom management, supportive care, and patient education. The nurse utilizes an interdisciplinary approach across the continuum of care with adherence to National Patient Safety Goals set forth by regulatory requirements.
