Nurses on this unit care for patients experiencing various stages and complications from hematology/oncology diagnosis. Patients may range from the newly diagnosed to those seeking end of life care. Our unit provides the opportunity to develop critical thinking and assessment skills while working with high acuity patients, managing the latest chemotherapy and biotherapy regimes, blood product administrations, pain management, and central line care . The nurse practitioner acts as a role model for professional nursing practice among his/her peers. The nurse practitioner supports and contributes to the development of nursing students as well as students of other health-related disciplines. The ability to establish and maintain interpersonal and interdepartmental relationships. The ability to apply principles of teaching/learning theories in planning and implementing educational activities.

About the unit 6 North is a 32-bed surgical floor that offers a great learning environment fostered by our team of exceptional nurses. 6 North offers experiences that are normally not found in Med-Surg clinical rotation. About the unit 9SE is a Level I trauma and post-operative medical-surgical unit that specializes in musculoskeletal conditions including total joint arthroplasty, spine surgery, fragility fractures and multiple traumas. We also specialize in the care of plastic/breast reconstruction surgery. We are part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team supported by many members including case management, pharmacy, physical and occupational therapy, advanced practice providers and physicians.
