Applicant will be considered for one of the 2 teams: Surgical Subspecialties and Trauma/Emergency General Surgery. There is opportunity to cross-cover and work on both teams. An ideal applicant will be effective in collaborating with physicians and other health care teams; demonstrate solid knowledge in anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and clinical medicine; and be able to make responsible clinical decisions within the scope of their practice. The PA/NP is expected to demonstrate a high standard of moral and ethical behavior, professionalism, compassion, and commitment to patient care and ensures compliance with patient related healthcare regulatory requirements, standards and recommendations. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Day-to-day responsibilities include: · Conducting histories and comprehensive physical exams to evaluate patients for surgery. · Performing daily rounds on surgical inpatients and provide continuity in care · Ordering and interpreting tests, developing and implementing treatment plans, performing patient education, preparing discharge plans, prescribing medications. · Comprehensive and clear documentation of patient progress (using EPIC as the EMR) · Performing bedside procedures (ex: I&Ds; insert/remove/manage tubes, drains, and catheters, wound care, casting/splinting; arthrocentesis, etc.) · Consulting and collaborating with medicine and/or other specialists as needed · First-assisting in the OR: Specialties including General, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Colorectal, Gynecologic, Thoracic, Breast, Plastics, ENT, Urology, and Vascular. Overview Provides high quality comprehensive nursing care to meet the needs of the patient/client and manages/coordinates the delivery of cost effective multidisciplinary health care services for a caseload of patients/clients consistent with VNS Health philosophy, policy, goals and objectives, and Standards of Nursing Practice. Works under moderate supervision. • Assesses the physical, social and psychological needs and environmental conditions of the patient/client through professional knowledge, skills of observation, interviewing, and physical examination to develop a plan of care. • Understands, interprets, and implements reimbursement protocols; determines the billing source for patient/client care. Consults with management on complex/unique reimbursement cases. • Acts as the coordinator of care for the multidisciplinary team by providing and managing the care needs of patients/clients which includes making/confirming referrals to other disciplines/community agencies and ordering supplies/services and ensuring they are delivered as needed. • Documents content and process of all services provided in accordance with government regulations/requirements, and VNS Health policies, practices, and procedures, as well as NFP requirements as appropriate.
