Job Summary Assists professional nursing personnel in providing patient care in assigned area. Assists patients with activities of daily living, provides for personal care, emotional support and performs more complex clinical skills under the direction of professional nursing personnel. Essential Functions Consults with and keeps supervisor informed of unit activities, needs and problems related to patient care. Provides general nursing care such as positioning the patient, lifting, turning, applying/utilizing special equipment, assisting in the use of bed pan, urinal or commode, ambulating the patient and application of binder or anti embolic stockings, bed bath, oral/hair/back care, changing bed linens, cleaning over bed table, and bedside stand, straightening patient room and other general care necessary during the shift. Takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, blood pressure, and intake and output measurements accurately. Documents in a timely manner. Prepares patient room and bed for admission and transfers and ensures all necessary equipment is in room. Maintains an attractive and comfortable environment for patients with special consideration to cleanliness of room, ventilation, and lighting. Assists in patient admission, transfer and discharge procedures. Assist with handling and care of patient belongings and other personal property. Answers patient call lights, telephone, and paging system and responds as appropriate. Able to release, remove and reapply restraints to patient under the direction of an RN. Ensures patient is in proper position and alignment. Assist RN and/or LVN/LPN with complicated patient treatment procedures. Serves and removes patient meal tray in timely manner. Assists with feeding and/or preparing items such as opening mild container, cutting food for patient. Assists patients with range of motion exercises, and movement to wheelchair or activity areas. This is a per-visit, hourly position — you'll be scheduled as needed to go into clients' homes and coach caregivers through the hands-on skills that are hardest to learn from a manual, with a particular focus on safe transfers and care for clients with limited mobility. The Caregiver Skills Trainer is responsible for creating extraordinary client and family experiences and ultimately trains our caregivers in the home. Provide one-on-one, in-home training to caregivers on safe transfer techniques, including Hoyer lift (mechanical/full body lift) transfers and gait belt transfers. Train caregivers on the care of bed-bound clients: safe repositioning and turning, use of draw sheets, skin and pressure injury (bedsore) prevention, and proper body alignment. Demonstrate and correct proper body mechanics to protect both caregiver and client during transfers, ambulation, and repositioning. • Coach caregivers on two-person transfers, sit-to-stand and pivot transfers, and wheelchair/bed-to-chair transfers. Job Overview The Medical Assistant (MA) II functions as an AltaMed ambassador at the assigned clinic, PSC, or Patient Registry team. The MA is welcoming and attentive to the needs of all patients and creates a positive patient experience by managing expectations while demonstrating compassion and respect. The MA assists in the provision of direct patient care by performing routine patient care procedures and technical/clerical support services in the clinical setting. The MA builds relationships with patients, listening to them and gaining their trust. The MA demonstrates compassion and respect and will be proactive in managing patients’ expectations. In addition, the Medical Assistant documents all specialties in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and assists with administrative responsibilities that include providing feedback on Back-Office processes to the Nursing Supervisor/Manager. Lastly, the MA assists in achieving department goals and objectives by providing support and guidance to the Medical Assistant team as a mentor and trainer. If working at the Patient Service Center, the MA provides other duties over the telephone. Minimum Requirements A Medical Assistant certificate, along with a high school diploma or equivalent required. A minimum of 1 year of experience as a back office Medical Assistant preferred in the outpatient setting, medical practice, or clinic setting. Phlebotomy certified preferred Nationally recognized Medical Assistant certification, preferred. Bilingual English/Spanish/Mandarin/Cantonese, depending on location, strongly preferred. A minimum requirement of a valid BLS certification or higher, following the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross guidelines.
