Our Birthing Unit RN Transition To Practice Program provides registered nurses with (3) + years acute care experience, the opportunity to transition into the specialized field of Labor & Delivery nursing. The Birthing Unit is a unique clinical environment that emphasizes safe, family-centered care and requires strong communication, critical thinking, adaptability, and a commitment to teamwork. We are seeking highly motivated nurses who are eager to learn a new specialty and become part of our Birthing Unit team. The Birthing Unit RN Transition into Practice Program is designed to provide experienced nurses with the knowledge, skills, and support needed to successfully transition into Labor & Delivery nursing. The program combines classroom education, hands-on clinical experiences, simulation training, and direct patient care, all under the guidance and support of experienced preceptors and mentors. This is an exciting opportunity to build on your nursing experience while developing the specialized skills needed to care for women and families throughout the childbirth experience. Selected candidates must demonstrate a commitment to professional growth, patient-centered care, and teamwork while successfully completing all components of the program. Compensation Pay Range: $38.20 - $77.39 The program will run from January 11, 2027 through April 16, 2027 and includes: • 14-week transition program • 12 weeks of classroom instruction and clinical orientation • 2 weeks of dedicated mentorship • Hands-on clinical training within the Birthing Unit • Experiences in related areas of perinatal care • Ongoing support from experienced Labor & Delivery nurses and clinical leaders Following successful completion of the program, nurses will transition into an independent staff nurse role within the Birthing Unit. Additional scheduling requirements will be discussed during the selection process Position Description: 1. Medication Administration a. Demonstrates knowledge of and follows SSH policies and procedures for administering, transcribing, and recording medications. b. Completes medication reconciliation process following SSH policy and procedure. c. Demonstrates proper procedure for the documentation of narcotic withdrawal, administration, verifies count, wastes per policy and resolves narcotic discrepancy. 2. Plan of care/Documentation/Patient Family Centered Care/Patient Experience Develops, discusses, and communicates a prioritized problem list/plan of care for each patient. a. Develop, evaluate and update individualized plan of care for patient and documents outcomes. b. Initiating admission assessment within 8 hours of admissions, identifies and documents patient/family/significant other teaching needs upon admission and throughout hospitalization. c. Continues assessment/reassessment and identifies care needs within established nursing practice. d. Documents all patient care following the department of nursing policy, unit based standards, disease processes (CHF, PNA vaccines) and nurse sensitive indicators (falls, skin, CAUTI) e. Assess/reassesses and documents patient's level of comfort utilizing the appropriate pain scale and the patient's response to each intervention both pharmacological and non-pharmacological per South Shore Hospital policy. f. Works on behalf of patient /family. Seeks help to represent patient/family when they are unable to represent themselves. g. Raises ethical questions and concerns with clinical team. Seeks available resources to help formulate and understand ethical decisions. h. Actively communicates plan of day via white board updating every shift. i. Facilitates discharge/transfer by goal of 12:00pm, communicates barriers utilizing chain of command. 3. Safety/Quality - Foster's a "Culture of Safety" through personal ownership and commitment to a safe environment. a. Verifies patient identification with two identifiers prior to the start of any invasive procedure, including "time out", administration of care, medications, labeled specimen's an documents confirming the correct patient, procedure, site, equipment and consent. b. Complies with the current CDC hand hygiene guidelines through proper handwashing. Adheres to universal precautions, makes appropriate use of personal protective equipment at all times and appropriately disposes of hazardous materials. Maintains awareness of MSDS sheets and how to access. c. Ensures environment meets regulatory requirements at all times. d. Understands and is able to demonstrate individual roles and responsibilities in the event of hospital codes/emergency preparedness. 4. Professional Development: Assumes overall responsibility for own professional development by incorporating evidenced-based practice, research, and performance improvement initiatives as a part of ongoing nursing practice. a. Obtains at least 5 contact hours per year in area of practice. b. Practices within the legal boundaries of MA Nurse Practice Act. Directs other licenses and non-licensed personnel as assigned. c. Displays the ability to accept and respond appropriately to feedback and recommendations for change. d. Demonstrates professional working relationships with colleagues from all disciplines to promote a positive/encouraging workplace. e. Job Summary South Shore Endoscopy Center | 659 Washington Street, Braintree, MA | 32 hours per week Bring your endoscopy expertise to a collaborative ambulatory team where quality, respect, compassion, and exceptional patient care guide every interaction. We are seeking a skilled and adaptable RN to support patients throughout their endoscopy experience—from assessment and sedation through recovery, education, and discharge. What You’ll Do • Assess each assigned patient and plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care. • Provide safe, attentive care in the Post Sedation Care Unit (PSCU) in accordance with established nursing standards. • Monitor vital signs, IV sites, and any specialized equipment required during recovery. • Complete systematic patient assessments and clearly communicate findings or changes in condition to the gastroenterologist. • Administer medications used for moderate sedation under the direct supervision of the gastroenterologist. • Demonstrate the knowledge and clinical competency needed to care for patients receiving moderate and deep sedation. • Assess discharge readiness using the Aldrete Scoring Criteria and implement safe discharge plans. • Record physician orders, document nursing interventions, and communicate pertinent information to support continuity of care. • Perform nursing and endoscopy procedures in accordance with facility policies and demonstrate proficiency in endoscopy skills. • Identify patient and family education needs and provide clear guidance that promotes health, well-being, and understanding of physician instructions. • Maintain a safe care environment, including equipment and supplies. • Support the Center’s Quality Management and Professional Improvement Program and participate in relevant in-service education. • Build positive relationships with patients, families, and visitors while consistently following Center policies and procedures. • Pursue ongoing professional growth through formal and informal education related to endoscopy services. Qualifications What You’ll Bring Education: Associate’s Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred. License: Registered Nurse (RN) state license required. Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred. Experience: Endoscopy experience required; ambulatory-setting experience preferred.
