Infection Control Nurses are proficient in evidence-based nursing practices and function as liaisons between all departments and Infection Control Committees responsible for infection control and prevention services ensuring adherence to all infection control policies and procedures. Additional duties include: Collaborating with multi-disciplinary treatment teams to mitigate potential for infectious disease. Developing infection control risk assessment and plan along with educational programs for staff and patients. Evaluating the effectiveness of the infection control program and revising as needed. Leading annual flu prevention, treatment, and reporting. Completing of documentation and preparing comprehensive reports. Minimum Qualifications Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (NY HELPS) program if they are: Licensed and currently registered as a registered professional nurse in New York State; and 2 years of post-licensure nursing experience. One year of this experience must have been primarily working in the development, implementation, or administration of an infection control program. Substitution: A master’s degree in nursing may substitute for one year of post-licensure clinical nursing experience A doctorate in nursing may substitute for two years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience. Possession of a current Certified in Infection Control (CIC) certificate issued by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology may substitute for the one year of infection control program experience. Responsibilities The Surgical Advanced Practice Provider position is primarily focused on clinical management, favorable impact on quality of care and is responsible to participate in all aspects of care of the Trauma and Surgery patient including physical exams and treatment of illness. Surgical Advanced Practice Providers will function in all areas of the pre/ peri and post-operative environment including pre-admission, test review, intra-operative first assisting, PACU care, SICU care, step-down unit and other areas designated. Surgical Advanced Practice Providers will use a variety of skills to educate, consult and manage the Trauma or Surgery patient population and assist the patient/family, the patient care team and physicians. They will work collaboratively with the health care team including Trauma and Surgery physicians, anesthesiologists, other physicians involved in the trauma or surgery patient care, nurses, case management, physical and occupational therapy and with departments affecting the care of the Trauma or Surgery patient. Surgical Advanced Practice Providers will act as a clinical educator working with staff on Trauma or Surgery competencies, new procedures and advanced practice skills. They will work with the Trauma Surgeons to implement necessary medical aspects of care including discharges and pain management. The Surgical Advanced Practice Provider’s role will also include the First Assist coverage of obstetric patients undergoing cesarean sections in the Labor & Delivery ORs, weekend and night call and cross-campus coverage.
