A Brief Overview The Pediatric Progressive Care Unit is a 24-bed unit within the critical care continuum that manages medically complex, mechanically ventilated, tracheostomy-dependent patients that are transferred from the intensive care units. This unit provides a nationally recognized education and training program that supports technology dependent children's discharge to home. The Clinical Nurse practices at the level of an advanced beginner to expert practitioner of professional nursing in accordance with, and guided by the CHOP Nursing Professional Practice Model. The nurse at this level demonstrates competence in caring for patients and families and progresses to caring for those with the most complex problems/highest acuity in the designated clinical area. Provides age/developmentally appropriate care. Care is delivered through RN leadership for patient care within the framework of family-centered care. The Clinical Nurse adheres to the organizational and nursing department mission, vision, and values. Clinical Nurses practice in accordance with the ANA Code of Ethics; the ANA Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice; practice standards of applicable specialty nursing organizations; and CHOP developed standards of nursing practice. The professional nurse practices within the defined scope of practice designated by the Nurse Practice Acts of Pennsylvania and/or New Jersey, depending on the assigned work site. What you will do Clinical Practice Follows the nursing process to deliver safe, compassionate, and culturally effective care. Gathers and recognizes/synthesizes assessment data to determine the patient/family plan of care, pertinent data to be shared with care team, and tasks to be delegated. Recognizes and/or seeks resources to recognize clinical changes that are indicative of patient deterioration; utilizes the CAT team when appropriate. Collaborates with the patient, family and multidisciplinary team to coordinate all facets of patient care. Develops, implements and/or revises the patient’s plan of care on admission and during the course of the hospitalization. Plans of care are outcomes focused and include goals as well as required interventions. Plans are developed in partnership with the patient, family, and the interdisciplinary care team. Care is coordinated across the continuum – understands and utilizes case management resources. Consistently follows evidence based practice bundles and nursing standards/procedures to provide nursing care that eliminates preventable events of patient harm and promotes excellent patient outcomes. Entity: CCA-Penn Primary Care and Penn Specialty Practices Department: Shared Services Internal Med Location: Penn Medicine Washington Square- 800 Walnut St Hours: Full-Time Job Summary: Under the direction of the Practice Leadership, the Clinical Supervisor is responsible for clinical leadership of the daily activities in the practice. Incumbent is responsible for direct oversight of practice-based clinical staff. Accountabilities: Clinical Services Responsible for ensuring clinic services are provided in safe, efficient, and competent manner. Develop/update present systems and monitoring for clinic flow, equipment maintenance, supply availability, environmental safety, etc. Provide ongoing assessment of needs with consideration of future directions for clinical services, capacity for patient services, and staffing needs in conjunction with other leadership. Direct involvement in strategic planning for future expansion related to the department. Ensures delivery of patient care, by self and clinical team, is safe, competent, and individualized within established guidelines and policies Reviews clinical documentation for compliance, provides staff education, oversees the POCT processes. Responsible for investigation and resolution of any safety net related to the clinical practice. Participates in direct patient care activities as needed. Maintains clinical leadership knowledge by participating in nursing and medical conferences and activities. Department Management Manages and supervises the delivery of care by practice-based clinical staff. Utilizes available staff to provide optimal delivery of care. Evaluates patient schedules and ensures staffing levels are adequate for patient needs and department operations. Serves as manager to clinical staff: interviews and selects new staff for the practice, orients new hires, and maintains competencies of clinical staff, performance management, staff development, accurately records time worked in eStar, holds self and staff accountable to established expectations. Ensures optimal patient flow. Addresses needs of practice and escalates operational issues to Practice Leadership. Orders clinical supplies/equipment and/or provides oversight of ordering requisitions maintaining adequate inventory while focusing on cost-containment and budgetary controls. Serves as a teacher and role model for clinical and non-clinical staff. Staffing Delegates duties to appropriate staff according to licensure and training. Oversees the work of the clinical staff in the practice. Instructs clinical staff on any new procedures. Makes assessments and develops plans for effective utilization of staff. Develops standard staffing guidelines, cleared by Practice Leadership as needed with scheduling. Develops and implements process for appropriate triage of all clinical calls. Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization UPHS Organizational Behavioral Competencies Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree-Nursing (Required) 5+ years of experience as a professional nurse (Required) 3+ years of managerial experience, ideally in a fast paced healthcare setting (Preferred) Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications: Current BLS certification (through AHA) (Required) Current RN licensure for state in which you work (NJ) (Required) We believe that the best care for our patients starts with the best care for our employees.
