Job Responsibility Manages and leads team members, operations and patient care activities within a patient care unit during assigned shift. Collaborates with team members and nursing management in the development of methods, techniques and analytical approach to patient care. Communicates, builds consensus, and guides team members toward achieving department objectives. Promotes and maintains high quality patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Creates a professional work environment that encourages team member respect, engagement, accountability and optimal patient outcomes. Promotes appreciative inquiry and evidence-based, ethical and compassionate practice. Provides direction and guidance to patient care unit team members during assigned shift. May conduct performance reviews and provide input into hiring, promotions and corrective actions. Serves as a role model for standards of professional practice (clinical, educational and leadership). Educates team members in new and existing department procedures and systems (information systems, fiscal responsibility, etc.). Provides input on department budget allocations to nursing management. Ensures adherence to the established care delivery model, using knowledge of scope and standards of practice. Faciliates continual patient care unit compliance with the JC, CMS, New York State, DOH, Public Health Law, HIPPA regulations and System, hospital and department standards. Demonstrates core clinical competencies for patient population of oversight in order to supervise and provide direct patient care. Maintains current knowledge of scope and standards of practice, healthcare legislation, and population health. Interprets policies, procedures and technical methods for team members. Identifies opportunities and makes recommendations that improve patient care delivery and team effectiveness using evidence-based strategies and solutions. Performs related duties as required. Job Qualification Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) required. Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State, required. Duties Description Are you a Registered Nurse with experience in nurse education and training? Kingsboro Psychiatric Center is currently recruiting a Registered Nurse 3 (Psychiatric Educator) to plan, design, and develop training curriculum to improve the knowledge, skills, and abilities of nursing staff. As a Registered Nurse 3 (Psychiatric Educator), you would: Plan, design, and develop orientation and training curriculum for nursing staff; Provide on the job training Clinically supervise staff in the provision of nursing services Evaluate training needs and modify programs to ensure effective service delivery Collaborate with nursing management and multidisciplinary treatment teams to develop and revise policies and procedures and ensure staff competencies are current and in compliance with nursing standards Minimum Qualifications Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (NY HELPS) program if they are: Licensed and currently registered as a registered professional nurse in New York State; and Bachelor’s degree in nursing; and 2 years of post-licensure nursing experience. One year must have been clinical nursing experience working with individuals, at least 50% of whom have been diagnosed with mental illness, addiction, or substance use disorder; and 1 year must have been professional nurse educator experience conducting nurse education and training. Substitution: A master’s degree in nursing may substitute for 1 year of post-licensure clinical nursing experience A doctorate in nursing may substitute for 2 years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience. OR Candidates within State Service can be considered transfer to a competitive class position if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. Additional compensation may apply based on shift assignment. 7% shift differential for evening shift. 10% shift differential for night shift.
