Specialties include general, orthopedic, gastrointestinal, gynecologic, vascular, and other minimally invasive procedures designed for faster recovery and greater comfort. In addition, the Admission RN provides information to potential hospice patients, assists with the decision making process, performs assessments that assure the appropriate level of care is delivered, and expedites entry into service delivery systems. The Admission RN nurse must attend to the values and rituals important to the patient-family-community environments as well as upholding nursing practice and safety standards. The Admission RN instructs the primary caregiver of immediate care needed to be provided and informs primary nurse of the initiation of the plan of care. In addition, the Admission RN is responsible for practicing within the Hospice regulations and reimbursement criteria. As such, the nurse is responsible for determining the skilled nursing care and visit pattern to maintain quality and meet the patient and family's goals. The Admission RN will have a working knowledge and understanding of hospice, the interdisciplinary team concept and their individual role. The Admission RN functions within the interdisciplinary team to facilitate communication to promote and support symptom and disease management.
