Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner - Hematology Oncology, Full-time, Days

Description Northwestern Medicine has an exciting opportunity for either a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to work in our Hematology Oncology department. The APP will support the department in an ambulatory setting. This role provides comprehensive clinical management for patients enrolled in early-phase oncology clinical trials, including patient assessment, symptom and toxicity management, disease monitoring, and treatment coordination. The APP will care for high-acuity patients in a protocol-driven environment, collaborating closely with physicians, research coordinators, nursing, and pharmacy teams while ensuring compliance with clinical trial protocols and regulatory requirements. Approximately 20 to 25 patient-facing hours per week, supporting two primary physicians while providing coverage for additional patients as needed based on clinical trial protocols and scheduling requirements. Schedule: Four 10-hour shifts per week, with the opportunity to work 1 remote day per week upon successful completion of orientation. Essential Functions : Demonstrates clinical expertise and expanded knowledge through patient care activities which may include diagnosis and management of a wide range of health problems. Responsible for health outcome of an assigned patient population. Confers with collaborating physician and other health professionals in area of clinical expertise. Develops appropriate educational systems for patients, families and staff in areas of expertise. Mentors graduate students in aspects of advanced practice and patient care. Responsible for completion of admission, discharge, and transfer processes. Prepare and administer medications and treatments if appropriate as ordered by the physician. Review medication record for completeness of information, accuracy in the transcription of the physician’s order, and adherence to stop order policies. Administer professional services such as: catheterization, tube feedings, suction, applying and changing dressings/bandages, packs, colostomy, and drainage bags, care of the dead/dying, etc., as required. Description The schedule for this position is three 12-hour shifts per week 7a - 7:30p with every third weekend (Saturday and Sunday) and rotating holidays throughout the year required.
