General Summary: The PA or APRN under the supervision of the Physician, who acts as the collaborative practitioner, is responsible for: Performs physical examinations of patients; evaluation and treatment of acute and chronic urologic conditions within the hospital setting and practice Procedures to include, catheter replacement/removal, injections, ultrasounds, circumcisions Surgery first assist Orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic tests, such as routine laboratory, X-ray, etc. Monitors the patient’s course of treatment and makes appropriate referral to either a physician or specialist, as needed Collaborates with physician and staff as necessary to provide consistent care to patients and support to staff Displays a caring and professional attitude at all times as well as maintaining personal and professional growth Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, patients, and the public. Strong communication skills Patient management and surgical first assist for pediatric general surgery patients. Collaborate with supervising physician, pediatric surgery team and staff to provide consistent patient care in the inpatient hospital and outpatient clinic settings. Perform and document patient histories and physical exams. Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests, such as routine laboratory, X-ray, Ultrasound etc. Monitors the patient’s course of treatment and implement care plans. Participate in daily inpatient rounds. Evaluate consultations in the emergency department and outpatient office. With appropriate training and supervision, perform bedside procedures such as newborn circumcision, extra digit excision, drainage of abscess, local wound care, ostomy and gastrostomy tube care. Administers medications and treatments as prescribed by the physician in the physician’s plan of care. 8. Counsels the patient and family in meeting nursing and related needs. 9. Assists the patient with the activities of daily living and facilitates the patient’s efforts toward self-sufficiency and optional comfort care. 11. As a mandatory reporter, reports failure to comply with the requirements of the Dept. of Health as required within 14 calendar days, using Dept. of Health forms. 5. Reports must be submitted immediately when the reporting person has reasonable cause to believe that abandonment, abuse, financial exploitation, or neglect of a vulnerable adult has occurred. 6. Teaches the patient and family/caregiver self-care techniques as appropriate.
