Medication Aide Schedule; PRN As Needed GENERAL DESCRIPTION Under the supervision of the Residential Services Manager, this position assists in the development and implementation of individual program plans; serves as an advocate and role model for all residential clients; plans and supervises client activities; ensures medication administration is completed accurately and per regulations and policies; assists clients with community integration; documents observations and results of all interventions; upholds client rights including confidentiality and maintenance of the residences. Employee is responsible for ensuring a clean, safe, and healthy environment. ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Ensures medications are administered as directed and effectiveness is documented per physician orders and in accordance with policies, procedures, and regulations. 2. Reviews and is aware of each client’s Individual Program Plan (IPP) and Residential Treatment Program (RTP) and ensures specific training and/or guidance is completed as outlined in plans. 3. Works directly with clients and ensures an environment conducive to client learning in the areas of self-care skills, social interaction, and community interaction. 4. Assists in the development and implementation of schedules for group programming, activities, and residential chore schedules and outings. 5. Models appropriate social behavior while providing a supportive and therapeutic atmosphere for clients. 6. Investigates and responds promptly to questions or complaints from residents. 7. Participates in quality meal preparation. 8. Advocates for clients, including coordinating staffing, developing individual’s programs, performing assessments, training other staff in program procedures, reviewing IPP and RTP documentation, and making referrals for services as needed. 9. Works collaboratively with Qualified Mental Health Professional and supervisory staff to ensure program services meet regulatory expectations. 10. Completes all required documentation in a timely manner including but not limited to observations, program data, staffing results, medication administration, assessments, and incident reports in accordance with established procedures. 11. Informs the appropriate individuals and/or supervisor of any client issues. 12. Ensures residences and clients remain clean and safe during all scheduled work shifts. 13. Provides for client transportation needs as needed. 14. Intervenes when clients demonstrate potential or actual harmful behavior using the least restrictive method. 15. Ability to provide verbal de-escalation and/or physical behavior management techniques as trained through BMC. 16. Promotes concepts of performance improvement and teamwork. 17. Models and completes activities of daily living, including self-care, laundry, meal preparation, grocery shopping, and cleaning. 18. Verification of completion of a state-approved Medication Aide course. 3. One year of clinical experience working with individuals with psychiatric disorders. 4. Ability to teach, educate, and role model the skills necessary for clients to pursue more independent living. 5. Valid Iowa driver's license and proof of individual insurance. 6. Department of Health and Human Services approval to work at a residential site. 7. Ability to effectively speak read and write English. 8. Ability to administer and document medication administration accurately. 9. Ability to complete and pass First Aid, CPR, and BMC-designated behavior management training during the orientation period and maintain all certifications throughout employment. 10. Ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal and professional relationships. 11. Experience with Microsoft Office programs. 12. Ability to physically respond to and manage client behavior challenges utilizing BMC-approved and trained behavioral management techniques. 15. Strong organizational skills. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 1. Coursework in Human Services field. 2. Bi-lingual. 3. 2+ years behavioral health experience. 4. Experience in community health and/or residential programming setting. Overview Provides direct psychiatric evaluation, medical health assessment and intervention to clients admitted to Behavioral Health programs.
