Job Summary and Qualifications Position Details: POSITION SUMMARY: The Registered Nurse demonstrates critical thinking skills, scientific judgment, and leadership in planning for the care of the patient. The Registered Nurse is responsible and accountable for the planning, directing, and provision of nursing care to patients in accordance with the N.H. Nurse Practice Act, recognized nursing techniques, and both clinical and administrative policies. SPECIFIC ELEMENTS & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Performs a thorough assessment in accordance with unit standards and or patient condition, and based on this assessment, plans and implements care appropriately. 2. Provides monitoring/assessment of the patient receiving conscious sedation in accordance with policy. 3. Performs circulating duties according to procedure, demonstrating skill and efficiency, displaying the surgical consciousness required within this highly specialized environment. 4. Performs scrub duties according to surgical protocol. 5. Demonstrates ability to properly utilize all equipment for specific procedures or seeks appropriate resource. 6. Assumes responsibility for knowledge of surgical procedures and associated nursing care. Seeks appropriate resource when necessary. 7. Provides communication/visits peri-operatively to the patient’s family and or significant other. 8. Demonstrates self-direction above and beyond daily assignments and actively offers assistance to colleagues both within the main OR’s, cardiac OR’s and various other surgical services units. 9. Demonstrates ability to accurately and thoroughly complete peri-operative nursing record documentation, i.e. surgical site confirmation, patient identification verification. 10. Demonstrates collegially behavior of respect and consideration with regard to work environment, i.e. restocking rooms, returning equipment/supplies for other surgical procedures, cleaning work areas/station and or communicate as appropriate. Demonstrates the ability to correctly identify periprocedural safety issues, and report to physician accordingly. Demonstrates clinical expertise in creating and maintaining a sterile field. RN has working understanding of guidelines provided in physician orders for safe sheath removal when patient has been given blood thinners prior to sheath removal. Demonstrates the ability to identify criteria for equipment including Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP), IMPELLA etc. Assist MD with set up, insertion and maintenance of equipment as needed. Assist with insertion of Flow wire, Opsens and IVUS. RN must demonstrate contraindications and reversal for IV adenosine infusion. Demonstrates a working knowledge of hemodynamic waveforms. Obtains the ability to monitor arterial waveform during left heart catheterization. Able to identify damping and ventriculization of arterial waveforms. Able to correctly identify different hemodynamic waveforms during right heart catheterizations.
