Duties Description Are you a Registered Nurse with experience in nurse education and training? Kingsboro Psychiatric Center is currently recruiting a Registered Nurse 3 (Psychiatric Educator) to plan, design, and develop training curriculum to improve the knowledge, skills, and abilities of nursing staff. As a Registered Nurse 3 (Psychiatric Educator), you would: Plan, design, and develop orientation and training curriculum for nursing staff; Provide on the job training Clinically supervise staff in the provision of nursing services Evaluate training needs and modify programs to ensure effective service delivery Collaborate with nursing management and multidisciplinary treatment teams to develop and revise policies and procedures and ensure staff competencies are current and in compliance with nursing standards Minimum Qualifications Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (NY HELPS) program if they are: Licensed and currently registered as a registered professional nurse in New York State; and Bachelor’s degree in nursing; and 2 years of post-licensure nursing experience. One year must have been clinical nursing experience working with individuals, at least 50% of whom have been diagnosed with mental illness, addiction, or substance use disorder; and 1 year must have been professional nurse educator experience conducting nurse education and training. Substitution: A master’s degree in nursing may substitute for 1 year of post-licensure clinical nursing experience A doctorate in nursing may substitute for 2 years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience. OR Candidates within State Service can be considered transfer to a competitive class position if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. Collaborates with physicians and other health team members in coordinating and implementing procedures and treatments. Job Responsibility Conducts patient interview, explains policies and procedures to patient/ significant others, reviews patient’s chart and answers questions correctly and courteously; assesses gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, respiratory, renal and neurological health status; determines mobility, sensory deficits, prostheses use, and skin condition and adjusts plan of care, as appropriate, assesses level of pain and pain management; communicates/documents patient’s physiologic health status and plan of care; Assesses patient’s psychosocial health status; elicits perception of medical/nursing care and the expectation of care; determines coping mechanism, knowledge level, and ability to comprehend; identifies cultural/ethnic requirements to reduce anxiety and ensure patient satisfaction; communicates and documents psychological status and care plan of support groups, counseling services, and social services; Identifies patient outcome; develops criteria for measurement of patient outcomes; identifies actual/potential patient problems; identifies patient’s need for teaching based on psychosocial and developmental assessment. Current License to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State required, plus specialized certifications as needed.
