Job Summary We are seeking a part-time, 25-hour Medical Assistant to join our Express Care team! Express Care, formally known as Urgent Care, offers timely treatment for non-emergency conditions. We care for adults and children ages 3 and up, addressing a wide range of issues such as respiratory illnesses, infections, minor injuries, rashes, and stomach problems. Because patients often visit when they’re feeling unwell, our team prioritizes compassion and emotional support alongside quality medical care. The schedule consists of working 2, 12.5-hour shifts per week (8:30am to 9:00pm), including every other weekend (both Saturday and Sunday). Since Express Care is a 7-day-per-week operation that delivers care during the day, evening, weekends, and holidays, the schedule for this role will require 2 on-call shifts per 4-week scheduling period, weekend, holiday coverage and the flexibility to work overtime as needed. The primary location for this role is 1285 Beacon Street Brookline. We do our best to keep all employees at their assigned centers; however, for on-call shifts, employees must be able to commute to any of our locations, including Brookline, Newton, Lynn, Natick, Westwood, and Woburn. You may also be asked to report to any of these centers during orientation (for training/precepting purposes) or during times of staffing shortages or other extenuating circumstances (for cross-coverage purposes). There is free parking at each of our locations! Summary The role supports healthcare teams by assisting with both clinical and non-clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers. Key responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow. This role involves direct interaction with patients to ensure their comfort and address concerns, as well as collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care. Does this position require Patient Care? Yes Essential Functions: -Assists junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions and responsibilities and helps facilitate their learning by participating in onboarding training. -Show patients to examination rooms, prepare necessary equipment for healthcare providers, and interview patients to obtain medical information, measure their vital signs, weight, and height, and record information in the patient's medical record. -Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, ordering and organizing educational materials to reinforce patient education. -Perform general office duties, such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms, while acting as a liaison with other departments and advocating for patients with a positive customer service approach. -Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing; perform phlebotomy if competence is demonstrated. -Maintains inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates. -Provides immunizations (as applicable) which requires certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider. -Responsible for improving appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene. JOB DESCRIPTION Job Summary Provides screening, preventive primary care and medical care services to members - primarily in non-clinical settings where members feel most comfortable, including in-home, community and nursing facilities and “pop up” clinics. Strives to ensure member progress toward desired outcomes and contributes to overarching strategy to provide quality and cost-effective member care. Essential Job Duties • Provides general medical care and care coordination to various and/or specific patient member populations – adult, women’s health, pediatric, and geriatric. • Performs comprehensive evaluations including history and physical exams for gaps in care and preventive assessments. • Addresses both chronic and acute primary care complaints, and demonstrates ability to ascertain medical urgency. • Establishes and documents reasonable medical diagnoses. • Seeks specialty consultation as appropriate. • Orders/performs pertinent diagnostic laboratory and radiology testing for the medical diagnosis or presenting symptoms; works within an environment of limited resources and therefore uses diagnostic tests judiciously and appropriately. • Understands when a member's needs are beyond their scope of knowledge and when physician oversight is needed. • Creates and implements a medical plan of care. • Schedules appointments for visits when appropriate. • Provides post-discharge coordination to reduce hospital readmission rates and emergency room utilization. • Performs face-to-face in-person visits in a variety of settings including in-home, skilled nursing facilities, and public locations. • Performs face-to-face visits via alternative modalities based on business need, leadership direction and state regulations. • Orders bulk laboratory orders to target specific member populations. • Performs alternating on-call coverage to triage any urgent lab results and pharmacy inquiries and develops appropriate plans of care. • Participates in community-based “pop up clinics” to build relationships with communities, and address gaps in health care. • Drives up to 120 miles a day on a regular basis to a variety of locations within the assigned region.
