Administration of a medication as ordered by a physician or APN. Collects, washes, prepares and monitors instruments and equipment in compliance with hospital standards. Check schedule regularly, monitor waiting room and exam rooms, carry out physician orders promptly and assist patient as necessary to facilitate a positive visit. Transports, lifts, and assists patients in wheelchairs, stretchers, and examining tables. In this role you will partner with the rest of the clinical team to provide patients the highest quality of care. In this role, a Medical Assistant is an employee who performs a wide variety of patient care services under the direct supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice nurse (APN) or physician. Such services can involve therapeutic and/or diagnostic procedures. Essential Job Functions: Know and practice the University of Chicago Medical Center’s Pride Values and Patient Centered Care Definition and Principles. Perform any or all duties involving direct patient care as assigned by the registered nurse or physician and within the scope of the Nursing policies and procedures. Appropriately implement and document patient and family education as delegated by the RN or physician. Obtain and record vital signs. Perform tests, i.e. pregnancy tests, urinalysis, and hemocults, etc., specific to the patient population. Document all aspects of patient care according to hospital policies and procedures. Perform phlebotomy services. Assist with collection of specimens. Perform labeling and logging of specimens in compliance with hospital standards. Performs other duties as assigned. The days of the week that you are scheduled will rotate, but we anticipate that you will not be scheduled to work on weekends.

This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area. Our oncology clinics provide comprehensive cancer for adult patients across a wide range of cancer types and treatments. Each location is staffed by experienced general oncology specialists and offers integrated services designed to support patients at every stage of care, including palliative care to enhance quality of life throughout treatment and beyond. Under the direction of clinical leadership and in collaboration with the program support team, coordinates the care of patients through the disease process. Acts as a clinical liaison for patients, across medical services and clinical departments. Assesses clinical, emotional, spiritual, psychosocial, financial, and other patient needs. Evaluates and manages patient symptoms before during and after treatment. Essential Job Functions Acts as liaison for patients, families and their multidisciplinary clinical team. Required Qualifications Registered Nurse with a current Illinois license. Graduate of a National League for Nursing accredited School of Nursing with BSN Minimum of two years hematology/oncology clinical nursing experience with demonstrated clinical competence in patient care, teaching and management of patients with a cancer diagnosis, and knowledge about clinical aspects of oncology including protocol therapy and data management. Must have general computer skills and be adaptable to changing working situations and work assignments.
