Pain Management Center-Certified Medical Assistant Full Time Mon-Fri 8A-430P GENERAL DESCRIPTION Under the direct supervision of the Clinic Manager performs selected patient-care tasks for patients of all ages, gender, cultures, and backgrounds in the clinic setting. In addition, laboratory and office duties are performed as needed. This position has no supervisory responsibility. ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Greets and escorts patients to exam rooms for medical provider visit. 2. Obtains and documents in Meditech system subjective data (chief complaint and allergies). Obtains and documents objective data (vital signs and weight). 3. Communicates to provider and/or other care team members information about the patients; any problems, needs, or changes in patient’s status. 4. Anticipates and prepares the exam room with equipment and supplies required for the visit and assists the health care team with exams and procedures. 5. Provides basic education; explains lab/diagnostic test(s) to the patient including proper preparation and provides appropriate handouts to patients appropriate to their age, learning considerations and identified needs. 6. Administers medications or treatments to the patient as ordered by the provider (per medical assistant scope of practice). Utilizes proper procedure with special consideration for patient safety. 7. Utilizes universal precautions, assists in obtaining specimens from patients (venipuncture, cultures, etc.) and forwards to laboratory as applicable. 8. Performs lab testing (i.e. urine dip, pregnancy test, hemoccult, hemocue, strep screen) including all quality controls as applicable and documents all results comprehensively and accurately in the chart and maintains all laboratory/diagnostic test logs. 9. Assists other members of the team to include, but not limited to, answering incoming phone calls, preparing charts, scheduling and other office tasks required to keep the clinic operating smoothly. 10. Assists in pre-chart planning for incoming patients. 11. Demonstrates an ability to remain calm and professional during periods of peak activity. 12. Description As an integral part of the clinical care team, the Patient Care Associate is responsible for patient care and support activities promoting patient focused care within the Specialty Service. The Patient Care Associate supports the registered nurse in patient care activities, such as: assisting patient with activities of daily living, collecting specimens and performing procedures; maintaining a safe, clean environment; and other duties as needed. Responsibilities A. Clinical/Technical/Service • Demonstrates the ability to perform clinical/technical/service/administrative tasks • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned area. • Performs and records patient’s vital signs, such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature and respirations. Documents intake and output and other data as assigned • Obtains patient’s rating on pain scales as a fifth vital sign in all areas except Pediatrics • Performs clinical procedures, such as specimen collection including blood glucose, venipuncture, EKG, application of compression devices, post-mortem care, and maintenance of skin integrity. • Sets up for selected procedures and assists RN’s accordingly. • Assists patient with activities of daily living, such as feeding, bathing and/or toileting. Orients Patients to clinical environment. Assists patient with ambulation and all levels of mobilization. • Assists with dietary functions, including delivering and collecting patient trays at bedside, passing menus to patients and assisting them with menu completion, mixing nutritional supplements, reporting variation in eating patterns to RN/Dietitian, and maintaining accurate and timely systems for transmission of patient dietary orders and changes • Maintains a safe, clean and functional environment, including ensuring for the comfortable Movement of the patient. Assists the patient in room maintenance, such as bed-stripping and trash removed, when necessary • Performs on-to-one observation or close observation status of patients, e.g. safety, elopement risk, or suicide prevention. • Maintains “isolation status” for patients under direction of an RN and according to set procedures • Performs scheduled hourly care checks/ rounding on patients with emphasis on caring for toileting needs, comfort, and positioning and pain awareness. Compensation The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $64.8517 - $64.8517 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES: By following the Care Plan that has been completed by the Nursing Supervisor, the Home Health Aide provides assistance with the following: • Maintain a healthy, safe environment. Providing nutritional and environmental support. • Assist with personal hygiene, toileting, dressing, walking and feeding the client. • Position the client when instructed to do so. • Assist with certain treatments and therapy as ordered by the physician and approved by the nursing supervisor. • Remind the client to take medications. • Assist with payment of bills ONLY when authorized to do so and it is documented on the assignment sheet. • Run errands when authorized to do so. Documentation on the Aide Charting Sheet daily. • Report any important information or changes in the client's condition to the agency and/or the nursing supervisor when necessary. • Use of medical supplies and equipment when appropriate. • Emotional support and the development of a trusting relationship between the aide and the client. • Encouragement of client independence. QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION: • Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older. • Must have a certificate from a Home Health Aide training program consistent with State requirements with evidence of ongoing in-service education to maintain the certificate. • Must have the maturity necessary for establishing and maintaining a good work relationship with the client, the client's family and agency personnel. • Have a sincere interest in and a sympathetic attitude towards caring for the sick and disabled. A HOME HEALTH AIDE MUST: • Get along well with others. • Be dependable and trustworthy. • Maintain compliance with all agency policies and procedures. • Maintain in-service requirements as specified in State and agency regulations. Enjoy working with others. • Be a good listener, exhibit empathy for the sick, disabled and elderly, and be sensitive to the feelings of others. • Be neatly dressed and have good personal hygiene habits. • Maintain good health habits with regular physical and dental exams. • Wear an identification badge while working. FUNCTIONAL ABILITIES: • Able to lift, turn and transfer clients • Able to lift up to 50 pounds. • Must be able to stoop and bend. • Visual/ hearing ability sufficient to comprehend written and verbal communication. • Able to verbalize so that the average person can understand. • Provide direct care according to the established client plan of care. • Carry out a wide variety of tasks under the direction of the nursing supervisor. WORK ENVIRONMENT: • Regular exposure to client elements and occasional stress.
