Full time, 8am-4pm with on call rotation. A Registered Nurse (RN) Manager is responsible for the overall management of daily operations for the intake and admissions department of Hospice. Promotes and sets standards for timely admission into the appropriate hospice or palliative care program. Provides clinical direction and support for the intake office and clinical staff. This responsibility includes ensuring compliance with Hospice criteria and state and federal regulations as they apply to the Hospice program. Assures that the patients and families receive quality care in accordance with recognized standards of practice, Hospice criteria, policies and procedures, and both state and federal regulation. Acts as community liaison when dealing with patients, families, medical staff, and institutions for all referrals. Demonstrates the ability to increase referrals, the conversion rate of referrals, and the average length of stay for admitted patients. Essential Duties and Responsibilities for a Registered Nurse (RN) Manager: Assists with recruiting, hiring, mentoring, evaluating, and separating staff. Responsible for staff scheduling to ensure appropriate staffing levels to meet referral demand, admission visits, and liaison visits. Maintains working knowledge of state and federal regulations as they apply to hospice and palliative care services. Responsible for both new and revised policy and procedure development and demonstrates ability to operationalize to assure high quality and regulatory compliance standards. Assists in the preparation of the annual budget and promotes cost containment within area of oversight including budget variance analysis. Assists in the implementation of an agency wide Continuous Quality Improvement Program and assists in multiple monitoring activities that are both patient and organizational focused to promote clinical quality and corporate compliance. Uses leadership position to set positive, attainable expectations, objectives and goals for staff development. Provides guidance and support to staff in the planning of patient care to ensure that care is rendered as components of an interdisciplinary team and handles any patient care problems that arise including appropriate risk management interventions. Acts as the first administrative responder to patient/family complaints, unusual occurrences and risk management issues in the intake and admissions department. Works collaboratively to promote a department culture of patient centered services and customer service focus in all interactions. Participates in 24 hour, 7 day per week Supervisory on call for intake and admissions department. Must be able to perform informational visits and admit patients into the Hospice program on an as needed basis. Responsible for review and prioritization of all incoming referrals. Qualifications for a Registered Nurse (RN) Manager: Education/ Certification Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current RN licensure in NYS. BSN preferred. Certification in Hospice and Palliative Care Nursing Valid Driver's License, free of serious violations, and vehicle required for use when on duty or on-call Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of clinical nursing experience Minimum of two (2) years of management experience required; two (2) years of supervision Experience working in various healthcare settings helpful; Hospice & Palliative Care preferred. Experience with electronic documentation (EMR) helpful
