Job Summary In the ICU of a hospital, patients are often in critical condition and need constant monitoring and care. ICU nurses review data from special equipment to track a patient’s heart rate, blood pressure, breathing and other vitals. They also carry out more traditional nursing duties such as administering medications and communicating with patients regarding their condition. Essential Functions Performs a thorough and timely assessment of patient’s condition including physical, psychological, social and rehabilitative aspects. Identifies problems/nursing needs including discharge needs. Intervenes appropriately to address identified problems and needs. Evaluates effectiveness of care and revises plan if necessary. Description The Nurse Manager is responsible for the management of nursing practice and operations on a designated unit/service. Overview Provides mental health assessment of and treatment to patients with psychiatric symptoms, cognitive deficits, and/or behavioral problems. Provides support and education to VNS Health staff and caregivers to enable them to better care for patients with psychiatric, cognitive and/or behavioral problems. Nursing Assistant 2 Under direction of higher-level treatment staff, performs duties similar to those of a Nursing Assistant 1, but with greater proficiency. Positions may assist with training new staff in assigned treatment areas. Nursing Assistant (Certified) Under direction of higher-level treatment staff, performs duties similar to those of a Nursing Assistant 2, but also participates in required quarterly in-service education to maintain certification and meet all necessary requirements to be re-certified every two years. Communication Nursing Assistants have frequent face-to-face communication with patients and visitors for the purposes of conveying treatment procedure and visitor information. Incumbents attempt to encourage and support patients who may be despondent or apprehensive, and regularly communicate with clinical staff to convey information on patients’ physical conditions and responses to treatment.
