Essential Activities and Tasks Care Management and Service Delivery - 80% Provides daily resident and patient care in accordance with the nursing procedures and as instructed by the Charge Nurse. Ensures that the Plan of Care is maintained for the resident or patient. Provides for assigned resident and patient Activities of Daily Living (ADL) including personal hygiene, elimination, comfort and safety, ambulation, lifting, skin care, nutrition, and hydration. Assists with the care of the dying resident and provides post-mortem care. Observes and reports the presence of pressure areas and skin breakdown. Assists with the application of nursing treatments as required. Provides daily rehabilitative/restorative procedures as required. Creates and maintains an atmosphere of warmth and personal interest, as well as a calm environment throughout the unit. Answers resident calls promptly. Operations Management - 10% Checks rooms for all medications and unauthorized food items, reporting findings to the Charge Nurse. Maintains resident and patient rooms, work areas/equipment in a clean, sanitary and safe manner and follows established infection control/standard precautions, reporting all hazardous conditions to the Charge Nurse immediately. Attends care conferences as directed by Charge Nurse. Attends all-employee and departmental meetings and in-service training as scheduled or as directed. Willingly and consistently shares observations and insights of departmental operations that may improve quality and efficiencies of department. Administration and Reporting Administration and Reporting - 10% Measures and records all entries, such as ADL coding, intake/output, temperatures, weight, etc. in the electronic medical record (EMR) or as directed by the Charge Nurse. Reports all changes in resident’s or patient’s condition to the Charge Nurse as soon as practical. Job Description UC Health is hiring a Full Time Registered Nurse (RN) for the Surgical Oncology unit for the Night Shift at the UC Medical Center. Be a part of a growing Surgical Oncology program, by making an indelible impact cancer patient’s lives through caring for them with the most advanced treatment. The Surgical Oncology nurse will support the Medical Center’s 24-bed Surgical Oncology unit and Level I Trauma Center, delivering high-quality care to patients based on assessed needs, established standards of care and according to policy and procedures. UCMC is at the forefront in treating patients with pancreatic and liver diseases and is one of two centers that offer autologous islet cell transplantation for the treatment of chronic pancreatitis. 9CCP cares for these patients following ICU until discharge and when patients are readmitted with pain or infection issues. The unit also cares for acute care surgery, thoracic, gynecology/oncology, vascular and colorectal patients. Most of the patients at 9CCP are cared for under the direction of a surgeon. Most patients are admitted from PACU, ICU, ER or directly from their home. Nursing care is concentrated around recovery after surgery including mobility, monitoring intake and output and pain management. The practice of nursing requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills to provide care to groups and individuals. The RN utilizes knowledge derived from the principles of biological, physical, behavioral, social and nursing sciences to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care. The care is culturally based and age-specific. Prepares, implements, evaluates, revises and coordinates interdisciplinary plan of care for each assigned patient in a collaborative effort with the other healthcare team members and patient/family within the time frame indicated by unit's standards of practice. Communicates formulated plan of care, as appropriate, to all levels of associates involved in the patient's care, and demonstrates ability to establish priorities of care based on patient's assessment and needs. Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment, and involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment, and continuing care of the patient. Identifies and responds appropriately to different patient needs resulting from behavioral health problems, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious/cultural norms. Demonstrates critical thinking, accountability, flexibility, and a cooperative attitude in meeting the needs of the unit. Nursing process is accurately and concisely documented, including evaluation of treatment and in accordance to hospital policy and procedure. Acts as a resource person and mentor for new personnel, floater, and/or supplemental staff working on the unit. Assumes responsibility for personal professional development and contributes to the professional development of peers, colleagues, and others.
