Department Overview Our cardiovascular intensive care unit (CVICU) is a 25-bed pediatric critical care unit for patients with complex conditions and their families. As a member of the largest pediatric heart program in the state, our team works closely with more than 200 interdisciplinary professionals dedicated to the care of children with life-changing cardiovascular diagnoses. In this unit, we care for patients along their continuum of acute recovery to provide for their changing physical and emotional needs as we prepare them to return home. We specialize in caring for children experiencing heart failure, after repair of congenital heart defects and heart catheterization, and before and after transplant. We routinely utilize extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) and ventricular assist devices (VAD) in the care we provide. Our patient population requires hemodynamic monitoring, critical medication management, maintenance of systemic perfusion, and management of organ failure. Children’s surgery centers are the first and only in Minnesota to be verified as a Level I Children’s Surgery Center by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Children’s Surgery Verification Quality Improvement Program. Achieving Level I verification is the highest level of distinction for health systems that perform complex surgical procedures in newborns, children and teens. The pre/post op staff at Children’s – Minnetonka rotates working in three areas: PlayWait (admitting), PACU (post op recovery) and PH II (recovery, discharge). Our nurses have the ability to work through all specialties in a fast-paced outpatient setting, meeting the needs of children ages 3 months to 20 years of age before and after surgery. In 2018, we performed 3200 surgeries in these specialty areas: ear, nose and throat (ENT); dental and oral surgery; endoscopy; colonoscopy; plastics; general surgery; ophthalmology; physiatry; and urology. Position Summary The Surgical Technologist is an integral member of the patient care team. The surgical technologist provides highly skilled intra-operative technical expertise and care for the surgical patient through planning and implementation of the needs of the surgical procedure. Position Summary The Hospital Nursing Supervisor (HNS) directs, organizes, plans and coordinates overall activities of the hospital involving a high degree of judgment, initiative, and leadership including the ability to anticipate and positively react to technical, organizational, and administrative issues during their assigned shifts. The HNS provides leadership, coordination and management of personnel, and assumes responsibility for hospital administrative functions Monday through Friday when management/administration is not in-house and 24 hours on weekends and holidays. The HNS maintains efficient utilization of nursing resources, working collaboratively with unit leadership, the resource management coordinators (RMCs), and charge nurses. The HNS plays a critical role in patient placement, the admission status process, and the facilitation of direct admissions during routine and surge situations. This individual is visible and available to clinical areas within all areas providing patient care to facilitate patient placement, collaboration with and among charge nurses, and evaluate current and potential staffing concerns. The HNS interprets administrative/departmental policy and procedures for all personnel and acts as an administrative liaison, clinical resource, and role model for staff. They are responsible for triaging operational issues or clinical areas of concern and alerting the Administrator On-Call (AOC), Patient Care Director On-Call (DOC), or Patient Care Manager On-Call (PCM-OC) when needed. Position Summary The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will practice as an independent clinician while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary care team. This role is responsible for the direct care and clinical management of pediatric patients at our St. Paul and Minneapolis Emergency Department locations. APPs in the pediatric emergency department practice to the full scope of their licensure within a team-based model that includes both independent patient visits and shared visits alongside an attending physician. We are a part of the Mother Baby Center in St. Paul at United Hospital which includes high-risk delivery services. The Children’s St. Paul NICU is a 62-bed unit providing level 2 and level 3 neonatal care, which allows for continuity of care from admission to discharge. Department Overview ECMO services are provided for both neonatal and pediatric patients with severe respiratory and/or cardiac inssiciency that is unresponsive to mechanical ventilation and medical therapy. Staff are available 24-hours-a-day for professional consultation, patient transport, or provision of ECMO. Services are provided on the Minneapolis campus. Position Summary Coordinates and provides family-centered nursing care to infants, children and adolescents, utilizing the nursing process. Accountable for professional practice including independent nursing functions and delegated medical functions performed in collaboration with other health team members. THIS IS AN MNA CONTRACT POSITION. Education Requirements: * Informational Interview required. * Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. * Current Minnesota RN licensure. Current BLS certification. * One or more of the following: - Completion of the ECMO for the Care Giver course, - Experience at the bedside of an ECMO patient(s), - Previous experience as an ECMO specialist. * Advanced critical care nursing skills*: - 3 years critical care experience with recent critical care experience in the NICU, CVCC or PICU within the last 5 years. - Experience caring for a broad spectrum of critically ill patients in their current unit - Understanding of the principles of hemodynamics in clinical work (e.g., flow, resistance, perfusion, gas exchange). - Understanding of the pharmacology of vasoactive drips. Technically competent. NRP*** for ECMO specialists with NICU as home unit, PALS certification, Trauma class. Requirements expected to be met within 1 year of joining the team. Demonstrated leadership ability (e.g., preceptor, mentor, CRN, Charge, Hemofiltration specialist, transport RN) - Demonstrates experience managing emergent or crisis situations effectively. - Exercises independent nursing judgment *Job applicants will be provided a clinical skills and knowledge self-assessment form to help them confirm readiness for the ECMO specialist role.
