Inpatient care in this department focuses on pre-op needs, post-op care and treatment after phase I recovery through discharge from an inpatient nursing division. The department's surgical observation unit and ICU provide intensive care and treatment to those post-op or post-traumatic patients whose condition requires treatment at this level. Preferred Qualifications Role Purpose Under the direction of manager, plans, directs, and coordinates activities of a unit on a designated shift. Performs direct patient care as needed and functions as clinical resource to nursing and support staff. Assesses, plans, evaluates and documents the nursing process of assigned unit as needed. Responsibilities Facilitates identification and resolution of gaps in care from hospitalization, at discharge, and into the ambulatory care setting. Critically assess patient data to proactively mitigate impending changes in condition and establishes consults to interprofessional team as appropriate. Leads the development and implementation of complex individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and the patient, family, or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Plan of care reflects application of expert holistic clinical knowledge and skill to anticipate and prioritize complex care needs, anticipate barriers, incorporating interprofessional team and caregiver/family input, and identifies opportunities to improve patient outcomes. Actively utilizes and champions scientific inquiry for evidence-based practices (e.g., participates in journal club, facilitates practice change based on new knowledge, recommends new standards of care or revisions to current standards, conduct a literature search to support unit or organizational goals, disseminate new knowledge obtained from relevant conference or continuing education). Explore opportunities to advance nursing practice (e.g., support a community service health event as a representative of the healthcare profession, patient/family education group, community advisory board, member of Ethics Advisory Committee, serve as adjunct faculty, leadership board in specialty organization). Analyzes gap in practice standards and provides feedback to peers in collaboration with leadership to enhance safe patient care. Overview Core Charge Nurses provide leadership for nursing staff on their scheduled shifts. They collaborate with Nursing Department Directors, Managers, and Hospital Shift Supervisors to provide the personnel, workplace, and technology resources necessary for the provision of safe, high quality patient and family care. Core Charge Nurses solve problems effectively, communicating and collaborating with all stakeholders. Demonstrates understanding and commitment to the Children's Mercy Lean System and contributes to operational excellence. They maintain clinical expertise by providing direct patient and family care, working with staff on a regularly scheduled basis. Responsibilities Oversees daily planning, assessment, and decision making to provide the resources necessary for the provision of safe, high-quality patient and family care in the intermediate care environment (areas providing acute inpatient care or complex outpatient care). Maintains clinical expertise by providing direct patient and family care, working with staff on a regularly scheduled basis. Collaborates with the department leadership team in the management of personnel. Demonstrates and promotes accountability, communication, relationship management, teamwork, and collaboration with all stakeholders. Oversees daily operations in the intermediate care environment (areas providing acute inpatient care or complex outpatient care) to ensure appropriate staffing resources and clinical competencies are available for the department to function successfully. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree BSN required and 2-5 years experience. Neonatal or pediatric work experience. The pay range for this job begins at $36.16/hr, but your offer will be determined based on your education and experience.
