Position Summary Staff Nurse I is accountable for the delivery of patient care utilizing the Nursing Process and Relationship-Based Care model as the framework. The Staff Nurse I provides direct patient care and takes initiative to improve patient outcomes by integrating Shared Leadership, Evidence Based Practice, Relationship Based Care and standards of nursing excellence into clinical practice. Through therapeutic relationships with patients, families, self and colleagues, the Staff Nurse I functions as an interdisciplinary team member who provides quality patient care and fulfills unit and organizational goals. Duties & Responsibilities Develops, implements, and updates the patient’s plan of care based on on-going assessment of the patient and input from the patient’s family. Shares information and collaborates with other members of the health care team to promote effective patient care. Verifies and implements orders from physician, physician assistant and/or advance practice nurse by performing interventions as prescribed by the provider and documenting accurately in the electronic medical record. Engages and obtains information from patient and/or family to develop an appropriate patient educational plan. Recognizes symptoms, establishes priorities, and responds to patient’s changing needs. Engages support personnel by delegating appropriate tasks per the Illinois State Nurse Practice Act and provides support and feedback. Advocates for patients, families, and their significant others, the community, and the nursing profession. Integrates theoretical knowledge, evidence-based research, current standards of practice and clinical experience to provide “quality” patient care as measured by established nursing quality standards and other governing/accrediting health care bodies. Assumes role of Charge Nurse when assigned, utilizing appropriate resources and tools. Collaborates with other nurses to identify, promote, and provide positive learning experiences for staff and students. Serves as preceptor and/or resource to other nursing, support staff and students. Takes responsibility for continued professional growth/development by identification of learning needs and initiates strategies to meet such needs. Other duties as assigned. Assist in the coordination of effective communication among Resident Associates, residents, and families. Maintain liaison with residents and family members. Overview Department: Recovery Room Schedule: Full-Time, 11:00am - 9:30pm / on-call requirement Hospital: Resurrection Medical Center Location: Chicago, IL 60631 Responsibilities The PACU RN is accountable directly to the OR Charge Nurse and the Director of Surgical Services, and indirectly to the House Supervisor. Recommends to the Director of Nursing the equipment and supply needs of the department. Inventories and stores the new customer’s personal possessions. Assists customers with packing personal possessions when they are transferred to a new room or when being discharged. Participates in and receives the nursing report upon reporting for duty. Maintains intake and output records as instructed. Checks and reports bowel movements and character of stools. Makes occupied and unoccupied beds, changes bed linens, and straightens rooms, closet, and drawers. Notifies housekeeping if mattress in need of cleaning or replacement. Answers call lights promptly, answer telephone calls as needed and run errands as requested. Obtains blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, heights, and weights as needed. Does complete check of skin condition when dressing, undressing, turning/repositioning, etc. Reports any skin abnormalities to the Staff Nurse. Observes customer’s physical condition, attitude, reactions, appetite, etc., and reports any changes and/or unusual findings to the Nurse/RCC so care plan can be updated. Performs personal services for customer’s (i.e., reading, writing letters, etc.) as time allows. Encourages customers to help themselves and promotes self-care in aiding rehabilitation. Assists with care of dying and expired customers. Records resident food/fluid intake. Completes meal monitor form as indicated. Reports changes in resident’s eating habits to the Staff Nurse. Keeps customers water pitchers clean and filled with fresh water on each shift unless contraindicated. Serves between meals and bedtime snacks. Wears transfer belt at all times and utilizes as needed. Keeps the nurses’ call system within easy reach of the resident. Reports all hazardous equipment and conditions to the Staff Nurse immediately. Participates in the development, maintenance, and implementation of the facility’s Quality Assurance program for the Nursing Department. Performs other related duties as assigned.
