Develops and implements treatment plan by prescribing/dispensing medications and/or injections in compliance with medical practice guidelines and state laws. Instructs patient/family regarding medications and treatments. Educates patients regarding health promotion/illness prevention. Recommends appropriate community resources to meet patient/family needs. Communicates appropriate case management information to other professionals and community agencies. Decontaminates & inspects instruments. Able to run the washer decontaminator, ultrasonic cleaner, sterilizers, and scope cleaning equipment according to policies and procedures. Participates in continuing education to improve skills and abilities and stay abreast of current technologies. Qualifications Education : Completion of Surgical Technician program required. Certification preferred. Experience : Minimum of 1 year related experience or equivalent. Licenses & Certifications : BLS; Surgical Technician Certification preferred. Responsibilities Schedule: M-F 0730-1630 The duties include but are not limited to the following: Knowledge of professional care theories, principles, practices, and procedures to perform nursing assignments of critically ill patients. Initiate, perform, and complete assigned duties in providing care to variable patient populations. Ensure compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the MTF. Prepare physician prescribed medications (be able to draw up many injection types including prolotherapy, steroids, visco-supplementation, botox, etc). Prepare Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections. In-house / in-person training will be provided. Part of this procedure includes phlebotomy of the patient and therefore this skill is critical. Ensures proper computer entry of patient data and equipment settings. Serves as an assistant during procedures: handling instruments, redirecting lighting, repositioning patients. Prepares all specimens for laboratory processing, places identification on all specimens, enters physician ordered laboratory test requests into computer, and delivers to Pathology department. Assists in scheduling patients for follow-up appointments and for procedure appointments. Provides patient specific pre-procedure instructions and participates in post-procedure teaching and discharge instructions. Provides post-procedure telephone triage (during business hours) and provides instructions based upon nursing interventions and as guided by supervising physician. Maintains adequate supplies in patient care areas, labels specimens, completes written and electronic laboratory request, monitors stock levels and expiration dates of available medications and supplies, and replenishes when required. Able to set up equipment for supplemental oxygen and suction and administer to patient. Obtains patient medical records, X-Ray/MRI reports and laboratory reports from within the network and from outside the network providers. Becomes proficient in the set-up of all equipment in the Sports Medicine Clinic used for procedures and treatments and assists the physician with those procedures. These machines include various models and manufactures of diagnostic ultrasound machines (GE and Sonosite), PRP machines (Emcyte), Stryker compartment pressure test device, use of the treadmill for compartment pressure testing and the gait analysis program. Receives training and becomes proficient in preparing rooms for procedures. Recognize urgent or emergent patient care situations, seek assistance of the RN and/or MD/DO, and initiate appropriate emergency interventions as directed (including CPR). Perform support duties for complex diagnostic tests and/or specialized practices or procedures, which include preparing the patient, assisting in the diagnostic examination, preparing and handling specialized instruments (including platelet rich plasma kits) or other specialized equipment (musculoskeletal ultrasound), and monitoring the patient’s condition before, during, and following the procedure. Orient peers and ancillary personnel to unit policies and procedures, skills, and standards of practice. Integrate healthy work environment principles that result in improved patient healthcare delivery, education of patients and their families, and employee satisfaction. In addition to the education, certification and experience listed in the basic contract and the position description, Travis AFB, Sports Medicine Clinic LPVNs will be trained on additional computer operating systems (as applicable) for completion of mission accomplishment, i.e. MHS GENESIS, ONENOTE, ASIMS, etc. Assists with patient check-ins, admissions, discharges, and transfers as directed. Performs appropriate portions of medical examinations, treatment, diagnostic, and clinical procedures. Performs medical records reviews and applies appropriate protocols and guidelines to determine medical needs. Maintains patient medical records in electronic format as well as hard copy as required. Maintains patient confidentially. Keeps a running log of procedures done on each patient in a password protected excel spreadsheet for the fellows. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: * Education: Graduate from an accredited community college, junior college, college, university or vocational nursing program approved by the appropriate State agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). * Experience: Shall have practiced as a Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse (LPVN) performing hands-on patient care in the outpatient clinical setting for at least 12 months within the past 24 months. Overview The Operating Room RN Circulator plans and performs all nursing care for patients who will undergo surgery and other invasive procedures. They provide nursing care from assessment to outcome evaluation. With this role, the RN Circulator is usually the single advocate for patient safety during operative procedures. The RN Circulator assists the team in creating and maintaining a comfortable and safe environment for the patient and observes the team from a wide perspective to provide safety within the period of the operation. Responsibilities The circulating nurse is the patients primary advocate while they are undergoing surgery and are unable to speak for themselves. Must use critical thinking, nursing judgement, and integrity to speak up for the patient when needed. Provides a safe and comfortable environment for surgery. Ensures patient is positioned and secured on the O.R. table in a neutral position advantageous for the surgery ensuring all limbs are in anatomical position, and skin is free of pulling, pinching, or shearing forces. Prepares O.R. suite for surgery. Ensures all needed surgical and emergency equipment is present and operational before bringing patient into the room. Has all medications prepared and surgical counts performed with the surgical scrubbed person. Communicates with surgical team, surgeons, anesthesiologist, scrub techs, and coordinators to ensure all surgical needs have been anticipated and met before bringing patient into the operating room. Conducts safety checks along the surgical continuum to ensure patient's chart is complete and accurate. Checks history and physicals, doctors orders, consents, and preference cards, and charts completely and timely all info in ORM. Ensures all members participate in surgical TIME OUT before start of procedure to ensure everyone is informed and ready to perform the correct procedure on the correct patient and all important information relative to the patient can be discussed before starting. Acts as unsterile member of the surgical team. Brings all anticipated needed supplies and equipment into room before case and stocks the cabinets for quick retrieval. Acts as runner to get any need supplies that are not located inside of the surgical room. Assists anesthesiologist with blocks, arterial lines, hanging blood products, induction, and intubation. Fill supplies in anesthesia carts and turns over anesthesia machine when anesthesia tech is not available. Dispenses medications to surgical technologist, surgeons, and anesthesiologists in a safe manner, verifies correct dosage, strength, route, and expiration date. Verifies patients allergies and home medications to ensure safety. Provides conscious sedation for procedures as needed. Screens patients to ensure they are candidates for sedation. Monitors patient's vital signs and response to sedation medications. Monitors for over-sedation and gives reversal medications as needed.
