The Cancer Institute at Good Samaritan will provide patients with comprehensive care focused around the patient experience Services include: • 7+ full-time Medical Oncologists • Other on site physician oncology specialties including neuro-oncology and colorectal surgery • Onsite supportive care and symptom management specialized physicians • Access to the latest research and clinical trials • Nurse navigation services to guide patients through their specialized treatment care plan • Nutrition and wellness consultations • Dedicated oncology specialized Social Workers to support the psychosocial needs of patients • Oncology Financial Coordinator to provide assistance and billing support for patients • Oncology survivorship program • Various support groups comprised of disease specific specialties for both patients and loved ones The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is an integral part of the delivery of health care and provides for primary care in many ambulatory settings through the CHS Physician Enterprise. The APP provides patient care under the supervision of a qualified physician and is credentialed through the Medical Staff process. Duties include, but are not limited to: Participates in and provides clinical care to patients through interview and observation, evaluation and assessment, intervention, planning and written documentation. Obtaining a detailed medical history, performing a comprehensive physical examination, diagnosing medical problems, ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies, instituting appropriate medical treatment, ordering medications, performing invasive procedures, education and counseling of patients as credentialed. Requirements: PA - Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program, minimum Bachelor’s degree required NP - Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, current RN license and current AANP or ANCC certification Experience Minimum of two years experience as an APP in a physician practice or ambulatory environment preferred. Adheres to principles of sterile technique preoperatively and intra-operatively. Assists the surgeon when needed gowning, gloving, draping, and passing of instruments and other related items during the procedure. Anticipates the surgeon’s need for instruments, sutures, and equipment. Maintains an organized operative field at all times by keeping the instruments clean and in their proper place. Keeps an accurate sponge, tape, needle, dissector, and instrument count. Prepares for cases by assembling supplies and equipment in accordance with preference cards and identifies conflicts or problems. Cares appropriately for instruments and supplies after each case. Provides a safe surgical environment for the patient, identifying potential hazards to the surgeon, RN and assisting RN circulator in preoperative checks of equipment. Displays knowledge of potential hazards (equipment, chemical, or gases) within the Operating Room. Utilizes experienced OR staff as a resource, and acts as a resource for new OR personnel. Assists in suturing, retracting, suctioning under direction of the surgeon. Handles and identifies specimens per policy. Expedites the effective and efficient turn-over of the OR between cases. Takes rotating call duty. Position Qualifications Minimum Required Meets the NYS Surgical Technologist Certification Law; OR Completed a Surgical Technologist program in the Armed Forces; OR Completed a nationally accredited educational program for Surgical Technologist with a nationally accredited Surgical Technologist credential OR graduated an accredited school of Practical Nursing and has an active NY state LPN license.
