Responsible for the day to day managerial functions of the unit, under the direction of the Nurse Manager. Includes interviewing and hiring; counseling employees and follow through of the disciplinary process, with appropriate documentation; completing performance appraisals in a timely manner and being actively involved in assuring completion of the staff schedule. Acts as a role model and mentor for staff in the procedural setting. Responsible for clinical practices on unit as demonstrated by creating patient care assignments which address patient acuity and staff skill set; supervising and acting as resource for staff and routinely evaluating appropriateness of care rendered by staff with follow up as needed. Maintain open communication with staff via scheduled shift meetings; maintains good relationships with other departments, physicians and their practices and nursing units. Promptly and effectively resolves problems and complaints to best serve our patients. Supports the Nurse Manager in development and growth of procedural specialties to ensure appropriate selection training and communication. Communicates with physicians / offices for procedural needs Works with vendors to ensure proper instrumentation and supplies are available. Supports the value analysis process within the terms of the organization to better meet the needs of the patient. Assists procedural educator and Nurse Manager in planning formal orientation program for new staff by assigning preceptor for orientee, following up on orientation goals following the AORN standards and Peri-op 101 guidelines. Responsible for personal development by planning and implementing annual goals and objectives, in conjunction with Nurse Manager’s input, to assure maintenance of clinical competency and enhanced knowledge of managerial concepts. Supports Nurse Manager in guiding and directing staff in a competent and professional manner. Promotes effectiveness of risk management, hospital and regulatory compliance on the unit, by appropriate education, investigation and enforcement of hospital and regulatory policies and procedures in these areas. Collaborates with Nurse Manager and Educator to promote staff development and assure optimal patient outcomes. Actively participates in Peri-operative leadership meetings and assures communication of changes to the staff. Supports customer service and patient/family/physician satisfaction. Maintains strict standards of confidentiality with staff, patients, families and Nursing Administration. Participates in various committees and task force as assigned. Clinical Nurse I 3X MONTH The Special Procedures Unit (SPU) is an ambulatory center that performs non-operative treatment procedures on patients that need pain management of spinal and sports-related injuries, and other musculoskeletal problems. The procedures performed are medically supervised exercise therapies to restore mobility and function in patients who might otherwise require surgery. Some of the conditions include but not limited to are back pain, neck pain, muscle and joint pain, sports injuries, post-surgical pain, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)/Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD), headaches, facet syndromes, nerve injuries, Osteoid Osteoma, phantom limb pain, sciatica, spinal stenosis, and cancer pain. The procedures and treatments performed in SPU include; epidural steroid injections - cervical, thoracic, lumbar and caudal, facet joint injections - cervical, thoracic and lumbar, intramuscular and subcutaneous trigger/tender point injections, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections, diagnostic and therapeutic spinal injection, diagnostic discography, implantable pain pumps, musculoskeletal and joint injection, medication management, nerve blocks, pulsed cold radiofrequency procedures radiofrequency ablations, sacroiliac joint blocks, spinal cord stimulation, spinal nerve root/dorsal root ganglion blocks - cervical, thoracic and lumbar, sympathetic ganglion and nerve Blocks, botox injections for migraine headaches and acupuncture. The Nurse Practitioner for Cardiothoracic Surgery is responsible for planning, evaluating, managing, and delivering patient centered care. Performs other related duties as assigned. Required QUALIFICATIONS Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program. Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse. BLS certification.
