Assesses, plans, implements, documents, coordinates, and manages patient care according to department and hospital standards and considering age-specific accommodations. • a. Utilizes the nursing process for all patients assigned to his/her care: ◦ Completes admission assessment according to unit standards ◦ Performs and documents ongoing assessment of patients according to department standards ◦ Recognizes and obeys EMTALA laws in the delivery of care to the pregnant women ◦ Continually reassesses patients for changes in their condition that may signal the onset of a pregnancy related problem • b. Maintains a computerized, evolving plan of care based on nursing assessment, the medical plan of care and patient need. The plan is initiated according to department standards. • c. Provides patient care, which demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge of normal physiology and disease pathophysiology of the pregnant and postpartum woman and the newborn. Appropriate nursing and medical interventions and knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the lifespan. • d. Implements patient plan of care based on evidence-based practice. • e. Documents patient response to treatment and effectiveness of care. • f. Provides teaching and discharge planning based on assessment of self-care knowledge/ability on an ongoing basis. • g. Other duties as required Overview Kelemen 8 is a medical-surgical unit that cares for patients with a wide variety of diagnoses, illnesses and disease processes. North and South 8 have telemetry capabilities for our patients. Kelemen 8 has frequent admissions and discharges. Kelemen 8 can accept a total of 77 patients. The North side houses 37 patients, and the South side houses 36 patients. There are two negative pressure rooms with an anti-room. There is a pharmacist present on the unit to assist the RNs with medication questions/concerns. Multidisciplinary rounds occur every Monday through Friday. Rounds involve all aspects of the healthcare team, including the patient and family. The schedule rotates every 4-6 weeks between day shift (7a-7p) and night shift (7p-7a). The schedule also includes an every third weekend requirement. The 11 Center Surgical Intensive Care Unit is recognized by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) as a Gold Level Beacon Unit for Excellence. The SICU is a 24 bed unit serving a diverse population of critically ill patients from various specialties including: GI, Vascular, Thoracic, ESS, Surgical Oncology, Colorectal and ENT, among others. With a very high patient acuity conditions such as shock, acute respiratory distress syndrome, and multisystem organ failure are commonly managed.
