A Nursing Supervisor is a licensed professional who provides direct and indirect patient care services under a physician’s plan of care and in accordance with the policies and procedures of Option Care Health, the state’s professional standards, and regulatory entities. The Nursing Supervisor is responsible for providing and overseeing complete patient assessment, care planning, patient, and caregiver education, evaluating progress toward goals and recommendations for changes in the plan of care. Job Description: ​ Job Responsibilities (listed in order of importance and/or time spent) Competent in the clinical management of home infusion patients including Patient management skills, the Nursing Process, the rules of Federal, state, and local regulatory entities that oversee and control the provision of care in a Home Health Agency. Knowledgeable of documentation and billing requirements for home health/ infusion care goods and services. Determines suitability of patients for home care. Supervises, monitors, and evaluates the quality and effectiveness of patient care, including, when appropriate, in home evaluations of field staff. Reviews and monitors appropriateness of Nursing Care Plans and directs the staff to modify the plan as needed. Acts as Administrator and/or Director of Nursing of the Home Health Agency for Medicare certified home health agencies in the absence of a director or Manager of Nursing. Manages daily activities with regards to effective operations and communications and ensures the office remains in compliance with all regulating and accreditation entities. Complies with reporting requirements, ensures policy and procedure, compliance and monitors and evaluates medical supply usage. Participates in the process for assessing, managing, and reporting nursing operational and financial data to the Regional Nurse Manager, Area Director of Nursing, and/or Director of Operations. Supports the development and implementation of the Plan of Care for each patient. Develops, implements, evaluates, and participates in office specific continuing education and orientation programs. Assists the Director of Operations, Area Director of Nursing and/or the Nurse Manager in the recruitment, development, and monitoring of new staff. Coordinates and participates in on-call responsibilities. Maintains confidentiality of patient and proprietary information. Participates as a member of or directs the professional advisory committee, infection prevention and process improvement teams, including conducting chart audits. Complete patient intake for procedural abortion and family planning services as needed. Perform transvaginal and/or abdominal ultrasounds Perform in-house labs such as hemoglobin, RH factor, rapid HIV tests and pregnancy tests. Collect blood, urine, pharyngeal and rectal samples for testing and order labs as instructed by an Advanced Practice Clinician or physician. Complete sedation screening on all patients who elect moderate sedation; screening includes but is not limited to review of vital signs, BMI, oxygen saturation, ASA classification, risk of obstructive sleep apnea, physical exam of head and neck, and auscultation of heart and lungs. Initiate peripheral intravenous lines and withdraw blood as needed. Elicit and answer questions regarding the surgical abortion procedure, risks, and aftercare. Elicit and answer questions regarding return of menstruation and birth control use/side effects. Inform patients of next steps and expectations in their surgical abortion appointment. Review and sign informed consent forms for surgical abortion with patients before administering cervical preparation medication. Assist the abortion provider throughout the surgical abortion including room set-up, rooming of patient, monitoring of patient vital signs, comforting the patient, and responding to emergencies. Receive patients in the recovery room and assist in transferring patient from the procedure room to the recovery room as needed. Create a warm, comforting environment in the recovery room. Supervise patients in the recovery room including but not limited to taking vital signs, assessing pain level, evaluating bleeding, educating, and using clinical judgement to escalate concerns to the abortion provider. Provide education to patients regarding all medications to be administered, including their desired effects, side effects and risks. Initiate investigation of accidents and unusual occurrences • Informs RN Supervisor or RN in charge of the facility of significant changes in resident condition, unusual occurrences, incidents, or accidents as indicated and per facility policy and procedure • Attend various facility meetings (care conferences, stand-up meetings, staff meetings, Medicare meetings, discharge plan meetings, etc.) as required. • Reports allegations of abuse or unusual occurrence per State and Federal Regulations and facility policy. Assists with a gathering of information relative to the event. • Initiates emergency procedures (including basic CPR) and provide emergency patient treatments • Participates in the facility’s infection control program for monitoring communicable and/or infectious disease among residents and staff. • Participates in procedures for reporting hazardous conditions or equipment. • Assists in orientation of newly assigned personnel as requested. • Assumes Charge responsibility following orientation period as requested. • Performs other position-related duties as assigned. • Supervise CNAs SUPERVISION • Make resident rounds to ensure appropriate care is being rendered, identifying, and making corrections as necessary • Meet with nursing personnel to assist in identifying and correcting problem areas and/or the improvement of resident care • Assist the Charge Nurse in revision and distribution of nursing assignments as needed • Assist in the supervision and direction of nursing personnel • Participate in disciplinary action and evaluation of nursing personnel CONSUMER SERVICE • Presents a professional image to consumers through dress, behavior, and speech. • Treats residents/family members with dignity and respect • Responds to Resident and family concern(s) and assists in resolving grievances.
