How you make a difference The LVN Travel supports the delivery of patient care within assigned correctional healthcare settings as part of a traveling team. This role assists with assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care under the supervision of Registered Nurses. The position guides patient teaching and clinical activities based on demonstrated competencies and scope of practice. This role adapts to different clinical environments while supporting safe, compliant, and consistent care delivery. Key Responsibilities Assist with patient assessment, care planning, and implementation of individualized treatment programs under RN supervision. Administer medications, obtain diagnostic tests, and carry out medical plans according to practitioner orders and protocols. Provide clinical care and respond to health emergencies using established procedures, safety techniques, and standard precautions. Document nursing encounters and communicate patient information to healthcare providers and staff. Support daily clinical operations, including controlled substance counts and assisting with procedures as needed. Additional Details Travel LVN opportunities with Wellpath are primarily based in California, with current needs at sites such as Shasta, Placer, San Luis Obispo, and Fresno. Assignments can vary by location, but most shifts are 12-hour days or nights, with some 8-hour options and weekend rotations depending on the site. Candidates must hold an active California nursing license in good standing and have at least three years of nursing experience; correctional experience is preferred but not required. How you make a difference The Nurse Practitioner (NP) under the supervision of the Site Medical Director and other site Physicians, offers a comprehensive range of medical services to incarcerated patients in accordance with established policy and state guidelines. They ensure necessary documentation of services is provided to the Site Medical Director or designee to monitor the provision of clinical services. Additionally, they communicate scheduling changes to the Medical Director and H.S.A. and make arrangements for coverage of medical services if unavailable for an extended period of time. Key Responsibilities Provides medical care to inmates, including conducting exams, chronic care clinics, and infirmary rounds. Maintains accurate and legible progress note documentation in SOAP format and adheres to formulary guidelines. Responds to emergencies and makes logical decisions regarding non-formulary drugs or off-site referrals. Supports existing policies and procedures for admission, transfer, and specialty consultant referrals. Maintains confidentiality and provides input into facility committees as requested. Additional Details Hours are: 7a-5:30p Candidates should be comfortable with substance withdrawal management, partnering with psych NP's and behavioral health staff, infectious disease management, MAT and standardized protocols (Title 15/NCCHC/ACA). In addition, candidates should feel comfortable doing suturing, incision and draining (abscesses are extremely common), basic wound care and debridement, splinting/minor fracture management, EKG interpretation, and emergency response (codes and overdoses) Qualifications & Requirements Education A graduate of an accredited school of nursing An advanced degree in an approved and accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Experience Prior medical/surgical and/or emergency/trauma experience and corrections experience is preferred. Must have the patience and tact to deal with the inmate patient population and ability to work effectively in the corrections environment. Scheduling flexibility is also required to be able to rotate hours and shifts, if needed, and to be called during emergency situations to provide coverage.
