RN Charge Acute Care

JOB SUMMARY The Registered Nurse (RN) Charge is a licensed professional who uses the BSWH nursing professional practice model to coordinate patient care delivery by the health care team. In the capacity of Charge Nurse, works in the best interests of BSWH and accepts increased responsibility to support and carry out BSWHs mission and goals. Using the nursing process, the RN assesses the patient, identifies nursing diagnoses based on responses to health problems, develops and implements an individualized plan of care, and evaluates the patient's response. The RN promotes safe passage for their patients by using knowledge of patient needs and the healthcare environment to assist patients to transition through the healthcare encounter without any preventable complications or delays. The RN delegates interventions to health care personnel based on the Texas Nursing Practice Act, each patient's condition and the competencies of the employee. The Charge Nurse holds nurses accountable for providing appropriate care including, where appropriate, taking disciplinary or other corrective action with support from the designated manager. The Charge RN is to be used only for hospital inpatient and outpatient departments with 24X7 staffing which include those departments with on-call staffing on the off shifts. Examples of hospital inpatient and outpatient procedural areas: GI Lab, Pain Management, Dialysis, Infusion Centers and IV Services. The Temple Memorial campus is a 636-bed specialty care teaching hospital and the only Level 1 Trauma Center between Dallas and Austin. Schedule: Seasonal PRN Unit Summary STC 3 is a 35-bed monitored hospital unit that cares for a unique population of patients ranging from young adults to geriatrics. Our diverse patient population includes complex urology patients, pulmonary hypertension patients, kidney and pancreas transplant patients, peritoneal dialysis patients, and radioactive implant cases. STC 3 is the only unit in the hospital that performs peritoneal dialysis. STC 3 is the only floor equipped with lead-lined rooms to care for patients receiving radioactive therapies in the inpatient setting. What You'll Do: As a valued member of our multidisciplinary team, you will gain hands-on experience and specialized skills including: · Peritoneal Dialysis management · Epidural · Continuous Bladder Irrigation · Nephrostomy and Urostomy care · Complex urinary catheter insertions and care · Suprapubic catheter insertion and care You'll also have the opportunity to train in ultrasound guided IV insertion, expanding your clinical expertise and contributing to exceptional patient outcomes. Why the ED Boarder RN Role? This unique position supports admitted patients who remain in the Emergency Department while awaiting an inpatient bed assignment. These patients have been evaluated and admitted by the appropriate inpatient service and require continued acute care nursing management until transfer to their assigned unit. This role does not provide care for active Emergency Department patients. Instead, the Boarder RN focuses exclusively on acute care (non-ICU) level admitted patients boarding in the ED, ensuring continuity of care, safety, and patient experience during this transition period. What Makes This Role Unique? Continuity of Care: Provides inpatient-focused nursing care to admitted patients while awaiting room placement on an acute care unit. Patient Advocacy: Ensures appropriate monitoring, medication administration, documentation, and communication with admitting services, consults, dietary, etc. Reduced ED Throughput Pressure: Does not carry an active ED assignment, allowing focused, high-quality care for boarding patients. What qualifications you will need: Associate Degree in Nursing is required. BSN is preferred. Current Registered Nurse License in the State of Texas or Multi-State Compact License (Employees with RN Compact License are required to obtain Texas RN License within 90 days of hire date). Current American Heart Association BLS Certification is required. ACLS is preferred. 1 year of experience in acute care Rehab setting is required.
