Job Description We are in search of a Registered Nurse for the PICU at Main Campus for DAYSHIFT . Someone who excels in fast-paced learning with dynamic flexibility in a critical care setting. This position encompasses direct nursing care to critically ill patients, while ensuring safety and comfort, within our family centered care model. Our PICU is divided into 4 cohorts for better patient outcomes. The 4 cohorts are: 9 LT: Surgical and Neuro-surgical ICU that encompasses post liver & kidney transplants, trauma patients, seizure disorder patients, and post-operative patients 10 LT: MICU focusing on pulmonary/pulmonary hypertension patients, bone marrow transplant/hematology/oncology patients 11 LT: MICU that encompasses a mix of medical-surgical patients. 12 LT: Transitional ICU is a unique cohort that focuses on our chronic, technology dependent patients who need intense education with the patient and family before discharging home. As a PICU nurse, you will work with patients in each cohort. Neuro Progressive Care Unit Highlights Our 35- bed Cardiac/ Neuro Intermediate Unit is a stroke designated unit that specializes in neurological, spinal surgeries and conditions that includes but not limited to seizures, strokes, cervical and lumbar discectomy/fusion, craniotomies for tumor resection, and cerebral aneurysm clipping. Our phenomenal RN team also provides care for cardiovascular patients with conditions such Heart Failure, AMI, pre and post interventional patients (heart Cath, ablations, and pacemakers), patients needing cardiac drips, and Arrhythmia patients needing a higher level of care in a non-ICU setting. It is a high acuity telemetry/ PCU unit that has standard nurse to patient ratios of 4:1 and up to 5:1 depending on acuity. Here’s What You Need Diploma of Nursing OR Associate Degree of Nursing (ADN) Required BSN Preferred (1) year Stepdown, Progressive Care or Intermediate (Tele) Care RN experience or three (2) years of Telemetry experience in an acute care hospital preferred RN must practice within the regulations of the Texas Nurse Practice Act, serve as a role model, intra/interdisciplinary collaborator, and coordinator for quality patient care. Texas State RN license or compact license is accepted OR Nursing Diploma BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support (AHA) upon hire Required ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support within 90 days of hire required CPI-Crisis Prevention Intervention training within 60 days of hire is required PCCN-Progressive Care Certified Nurse is preferred not required SCRN - Stroke Certified Registered Nurse is preferred not required What You Will Do Delivers care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process Assesses the patient Plans the care of the patient Intervenes as appropriate Evaluates the effectiveness of interventions Incorporates age specific safety/infection control measures into patient care. Initiates action to meet patient and/or significant others need for information Maintains continuity of patient care inter-shift, inter-hospital, and while expediting out of hospital transfers.
