Scope of practice: Covers inpatient hematology & oncology patients for either 8,10, or 12 hour shifts during the daytime. Inpatient teams included are Leukemia/Lymphoma/Histiocytosis, Solid Tumor/Neuro Oncology/Vascular, and Hematology consults. Works as part of a multidisciplinary team including an Attending Hematologist or Oncologist to provide care for current and new inpatients on the acute care floor. Participates in multidisciplinary rounds including medical, nursing, and pharmacy personnel to provide optimal patient care. Provides all patient care for assigned patients including but not limited to daily rounding/notes, calling consults, all order writing including chemotherapy, completing admission and discharge planning and paperwork. This includes coordination of care, consenting, and arranging follow up appointments/procedures. Ensures appropriate sign-out of patients under their care. Job Purpose Provides advanced nursing care to patients in a clinical setting in an area of specialization under the direction of a physician. Job Duties Obtain detailed history and perform physical examinations. Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic procedures in accordance with relevant health concerns of the patient. Patients are under continuous electronic monitoring while on a telemetry unit. This automatically communicates measurements and data to receiving equipment for monitoring. The monitored heart rate, heart rhythm, breathing and more are communicated to a monitoring station for a medical professional to view. 9 Central is home to the Dr. Abdul Kadir Stroke Center of Excellence. Nurses working on this 9 Central unit know that their nursing skills will be utilized with important, time-sensitive work that saves lives. These nurses help patients recover and regain much more function than they might have otherwise experienced.
