General Summary The Office RN assists the physician or mid-level provider by providing assessments’, treatment, testing, and education for the patients of the practice. Must be well organized, high level of professionalism, excellent customer service skills, detail oriented, able to multitask efficiently, critical thinker and able to perform in a fast-paced work environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Follows established hospital policy regarding patient safety measures such as infection prevention, safe patient handling and movement, critical lab notification, etc. to ensure that patient care is provided in an optimally safe environment. Maintains and cares for central line and prevents surgical site infections per policy. Administers medications (oral, IM, SC, topical, and IV) as ordered. Assists the provider with procedures, setting up instruments and supplies. Assists with examination as requested within scope of practice. Phone triage. Acts as a general liaison between physician/APP and patient. Calls patients with normal/abnormal test results, answer’s questions and assisting physician with return calls. Documents chief complaint/visit reason and details according to provider preference. Documents patient care in the medical record completely and accurately. Initiates, reviews, and updates patient's medication and summary lists according to provider preference. Maintains optimum inventory of medications and supplies. Maintains venous access devices (ports) and administers IV push medications and flushes as ordered. Escorts patients to exam room and obtains patient weight and vital signs accurately. Informs and sets up patients and/or guardian for My Chart at the time of service and informs and educates patients regarding the benefits of signing up for the My Chart. Performs point of care lab testing and obtains blood samples and other specimens for lab testing as ordered. Provides patient teaching and supportive services as directed. Provides treatments as ordered. Train’s RN, LPN and MA in the clinic role. Schedules diagnostic and therapeutic procedures,obtain’ s precertification authorization as required by payers and ordered by the provider. Meets commitments, works independently, accepts accountability, handles change, sets personal standards, stays focused under pressure, team player, and meets attendance/punctuality requirements. Education Graduate of an accredited RN program required. Work Experience Nursing or other health care experience preferred but not required. Certification/License Current RN license in the state of Missouri or Compact state required. American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification required. Mental/Physical Requirements Considerable mental concentration required. Lifting up to 35 lbs., turning activities and nearly constant walking required. Standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching. Working Conditions Frequent exposure to infectious disease and hostile persons at times. Frequent exposure to communicable disease via blood and other body fluids. Minimal physical discomfort. About the unit 6 North is a 32-bed surgical floor that offers a great learning environment fostered by our team of exceptional nurses. 6 North offers experiences that are normally not found in Med-Surg clinical rotation. The unit has a focus on surgical conditions including urology procedures, major and minor abdominal surgeries, ENT, bariatric and pulmonary surgeries, peripheral vascular procedures as well as other general surgical post-op needs. The unit has 8 telemetry beds for patients requiring cardiac monitoring. It is a fast-paced environment that you will never find boring. This position is located at CS Mott Children's Hospital. Diagnostic as well as interventional cardiac procedures are performed in the labs and include, but are not limited to, balloon angioplasty, transcatheter valve placements, stenting, biopsies, PICC line placements, hybrid procedures, and electrophysiology studies. Responsibilities* Primary job responsibilities consist of the diverse roles of patient prep, monitoring, circulating (catheter and equipment retrieval) and hemodynamic recording during catheterization procedures on a diverse patient population with known or suspected congenital or acquired cardiac disease. About the unit 9SE is a Level I trauma and post-operative medical-surgical unit that specializes in musculoskeletal conditions including total joint arthroplasty, spine surgery, fragility fractures and multiple traumas. We also specialize in the care of plastic/breast reconstruction surgery. We are part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team supported by many members including case management, pharmacy, physical and occupational therapy, advanced practice providers and physicians. Dan and Betty Kahn Health Care Pavilion is a 12-story hospital that will house 264 private rooms capable of converting to intensive care; a state-of-the-art neurosciences center.
