Overview The Vermont Veterans' Home (VVH) is a skilled nursing facility seeking a compassionate and motivated Nurse Manager to join our team in providing care to our Veterans and Members with the dignity and respect they so rightfully deserve. The Nurse Manager has 24/7 responsibility for the overall functioning of specified units and groups of patients, including those experiencing dementia and/or cognitive decline. Manages basic life support needs, based upon GCFHH nursing standards and protocol. Monitors and adjusts specialized equipment used on patients, and interprets and records electronic displays including but not limited to; Cardiac monitoring, EKG monitoring, respiratory ventilators, non-invasive positive pressure machines and high flow nasal cannula. Initiates corrective action whenever information from monitoring equipment shows adverse symptomatology within the GCFHH nursing standing orders in addition to notifying the Provider. Records patients’ vital signs and all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms. Works directly under Providers, assisting them during exams, diagnostic testing and treatments Prepares and administers medications and records medication administration appropriately, including scanning patient identification and medications. Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications by a licensed registered nurse. Maintains proper supplies and appropriate medical equipment to care for patients. Initiates patient education plan, as prescribed by physician. Teaches patients and significant others how to manage their illness/injury, by explaining: post-treatment home care needs, diet/nutrition/exercise programs, self-administration of medication and rehabilitation, as well as provides referrals to other healthcare professionals for follow-up treatment. Displays professionalism while completing multiple urgent tasks in a timely manner. Performs other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting.
